Specification o! Letters Patent.
Patented March 28, 1909.
Application filed .Tuly 26, 1908. Serial No. 445,408.
To all whom it 1n ay concern:
Bc it` known 'thet I, vBlurty/nus' 'lnnniL- coen-,citizen of the United States, residing.' ut Gladstone, in the county of Somerset and Stute of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fences, ol which the `following is n s eciticntion.
This invention re etes to fences, und hes for en object to provide n fence which may he conveniently set u or knocked, downfand to provide means wlicreby sections of the tence muy be securely locked together und anchored to the ground.
A further object of this invention is to provide n fence comprising e plurnlity of sections of suitable lengths which may be sold to meet the requirements of e fence of n givdkl size, or to cover e, certain uren.
With these and other ends in View which will appear ns'the nature of the invention is better understood, the sinne consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings have been illustrated e simple and preferred form of the invention it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise modifications within the scope of the ,invention '.vhich may be resorted to when desirable.
In the drawing, Figure 1 lis s front View of a portion of a fence constructed on the lines of my invention. Fig. 2 is s detailed erspective viewV of one of the posts end its link. Fig. 3 is a detailed crspeetive View of one of the connecting regs.
Referring .now more particularly to the drawings there is shown a fence 5 comprising a plurality of sections 6, anda gate 7. Esch section 6 consistsrot' two vertically disposed parallel span-cd posts S und 9 which are nrovidcd with e plurality ol' recesses 10' formed on the inner luces ol' seid posts and which receive the reduced ends l l ol' connecting rails 12 which ure also disposed in parallel spaced relation und correspond to the line wires of a wire fence structure. 'lhe posts 8 und 9 are pointed es indicated et 125 :it the lower ends thereof end crc ndnptcd to be driven int-o the ground es will be readily understood.
l The gute 7 is disposed between two of the sections 6 und comprises spaced vertical members 14 and 15 respectively, the memw l ber 14 boing provided with depending' pin tles 1G [or engagement in eye members l7 secured to one of the posts 9. The members 14 are connected with each other by connect ing rails 18 which are identical to the connectinpr rails 12 reviousl described. The member 15 is he d norma ly against swin rinf.; movement by means of a link 19 whicx is pivotelly connected to the post S disposed adjacent to the member 15 of the gute. The remaining posts 8 of the sections 6 are rovided with links 20 which ere identica, in construction to the linl: 19 and which are adapted to engage the posts 9 of their adjacent sections. The construction ol the posts is such that they nre held in vertical positions and in pairs in the formation ol the fence ns illustrated und set forth and are constructed on lines whereby they may be conveniently engaged with cach other when it is desired to set up the fence.
It will be seen that u simple and inexpenl sive fence is provided which is adapted to serve ns n tempel-er) inclosurc and e. plurality oi' sections as describcd'mey be made intol o. l'ence by those unskilled in the ort of fence structures.
.i 'l'he fence is preferably constructed entirely of metal but it will, of course, be understood that nny suitable. material may be employed. By providing recesses 10 and the reduced ends 11 of the connectingr rails 12 for engagement in said recesses, it is obvious that seid connoctiner rails muy be con venientl detached and folded with the posts of the fence to lie in s compact manner.
llevinp,r thus described the invention, what is'cluimcd as new, is zv A fence comprising e plurelit of sections, euch section comprisingr pnrcllelspaced vertical osts havingV pointed lower ends, seid posts loving :diningy recesses formed therein, and connecting mils having reduced ends detechably engaged in the recesses, pivoted links carried by one post ol euch section for engaging' one post ol' its educent section, und a swinging gute dispose between two of seid sect ions und provided with vertically cxtendinpr members und connecting rails,
