. TRACK-AL INING APPARATUS.
No. 916,040. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented March 23, 1909.
Application filed May 23, 1908. Serial No. 434,696.
To all whom it may concern: nected at its outer end to the chain. When Be it known that we, ROBERT SHAW and the chain is tightened by means of the screw FRANK B. SHAW, citizens of theUnited States, the cam is turned to grip or clamp the rail residing at Warsaw, in the county of Kosbasev which thus holds the block and the ciusko and State of Indiana, have invented chain, enabling the pressure of the screw to certain new and useful Improvements in bend or shift the intermediate portion of the Track-Alining Apparatus, of which the folrail to the desired extent. By slacking the lowing is aspecification. chain the clamp can be readily detached. This invention is an apparatus for alining l Obviously other forms of clamps or attachrailway tracks, and has for its object to proment devices may be used for the same purvide an improved and simple device of the ose. Also the chains can be made any kind which can be readily attached to a track. ength desired. In use, the clamps can be section or rail and used'to set up the same or slipped under the rail between the ties, and to bend or force it to proper position with the screw when in position will bear laterally respect to the op osite rail. against the web of the rail and consequently The device wi 1 be found particularly useapply ressure thereto. This device may be ful in constructing and repairing railway ap lied to either side of the rail. tracks. e claim:
The invention is'illustrated in the accom- 1. The combination of a screw, a threaded panying drawings, in which, I head thereon, oppositely extending cables Figure 1 is a plan view of the apparatus. connected to said head, and clamps con- Fig. 2 is a detail in plan of a clamp to gri the nected to the cables.

The invention is shown applied to one of the rails. It comprises a large or heavy screw 8 having thereon a traveling head or nut 9 the opposite arms of which are connected by chains 10 to the rail at a distance from the screw. The foot of the screw bears against the web of the rail, and in order to turn the screw it is provided with a lever 11 and a ratchet 12, and may also have holes 13 in its head in which abar can be placed to turn the screw.
