SHIRT-NECKBAND IRON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 1e, i909.
Appiieation med March 5, 1908-. serial No. 419,273.V
' To all 'whom i may concern:
Be it known that I, Louis H. BowERsoX,
' of Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Shirt-Neckband Irons, of which the following is a specification.
In ironin a starched shirt a rough edge is frequently eft atth'e'top of the neck-band and the object of my invention is to provide an iron by means of which this rough edge can be smoothed easily and quickly. l
The invention consists generally in -various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
InV the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specific-ation, Figure 1 is a perf spective view illustrating my invention in Fig. 2 is a sideelevation of the iron. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the smoothing iron. Fig. 4 is a front or end view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating a modified construction.
In the drawing, 2 represents a bosom shirt having a neck band 3. For the purpose of smoothing the edge of this band I provide an iron 4 having oppositely curved ,grooves 5 and 6 therein into which the edge of the band is'inserted, the iron being moved half way around the band with the eige in one groove, and then in the opposite direction with the edge of the band in the other groove. The grooves are of sufficient width to receive the band, and the contact of the'hot iron with the band will smooth its edge and remove entirely the rough, harsh surface so frequently foundr on the neck band of bosom shirts. l
The iron is heated by a current of electricity introduced by conductors 7, preferably through the handle portion 8 of the iron into the coil 9'. This coil may be mounted directly above the iron 4 or it may be arranged as shown in Fig. 5 concentric with the handle portion, and I may prefer to'use this style as it renders the iron more convenient to handle and move around the shirt band. t I claim as my invention:
A shirt neck-band iron, comprising a base portion having a heating means and oppo- 'sitely curved grooves to receive" the upperedge of the neck band, and a handle for said base portion.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of February 1908.
Louis H. BoWERsoX.
