JAMES BEATTIE, OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO DENNIS OBRIEN, OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT.
PROTECTIVE COVERING FOB BLOW-OFF PTPES OF STEAM-BOILERS AND THE LIKE.
No. 915,059. Specification of Application filed June 17,
Be it lcnown that I, JAMES BEATTIE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Protective Covers for Blow-O Pipes of Steam-Boilers and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a protective coverjor the blow off pi es of steam boilers to protect them from t e fire and so prevent them from being burned out. The device also might be used in other cases where a protective cover of this character is desired and I do not wish to be understood as limiting my invention to any particular use.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a plan view of my casing. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof. The device illustrated in the drawings com rises a cylindrical or tubular casing of solir metal made u as shown, in two parts, a I), having interloc 1n lugs c d at their abutting edges, said lugs iavin o positely inclined engaging surfaces 0 w hich tend to draw the sections securely together. Studs eproject from the surface of the casing, some o them being enlarged at their ends, as indicated at e, in order to hold in place the nonconducting compound f with which the easing is covered.
Casings embodying my invention can be applied to curved pipes and elbows as well as to straight pipes.
I claim 1. A protective casing for steam pipes and j Patented March 9, 1909.
nal sections, interlocking lugs on the abut-' 1n ed es of said sections having oppositely inc ine engaging faces, studs projecting from the surface of said casing, and a nonconducting compound surrounding said casing and said studs.
3. A protective casing for steam ipes and the like made up of solid metallic ongitudi nal sections, means for securing said sections together, studs projecting from the surface of said casing and having enlarged ends, and a non-conductin compound surrounding said casing and sai studs.
4. A protective casing for steam pipes and the like tubular in form and made up of solid metallic lon itudinal sections, interlocking lugs at the e ge of each section overlying the abutting edge of the other section, said lugs having oppositely inclined engaging faces, studs pro ectin from the exterior surface of said casing, and a non-conducting compound surroundin said casin and said projections, substantial y as descri )ed.
JAMES BEATTIE.
