State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Eye-Cup, of which the following is a speciication.

This inventlon relates to means for introducing medicines, Washes,`and the-like into the eye, and the principal obj ect is to provide a simple and novel article of manufacture, which insure the proper application of the desired material to the eye, and Will keep it-thereon and therein as long as desired, said article of manufacture furthermore bein `so constructed that medicament may be ta en from a;bottleand introduced into the eye without exposure to the outside air.

ln the embodimentillustrated, the article consists of an eye covering cup, a-com ressivble bulb having a conduit, and a ni )p e constituting an extension of the conduit and located in thelcup, all these parts being formed'` integral one with the other and of soft compressible material, preferably rubber.

The cup, designated 4 in the'drawings, is

substantially elliptical in shape having an open eye receiving side, the edges of the side Walls 5, which'surround said open side, being curved, as shown at 6.` A rear wall 7 closes the rear side of the cup, and thus an interior chamber 8 is formed. The bulb, designated 9, has an integral conduit 1() extending therefrom, said conduit projecting through the rear wall 7 and into the chamber forming an .integral compressible nipple 11 that is tapered. of the nipple terminates short of the curved edges 6 of the cup, and if desired, a suitablenozzle l2 may be iitted thereinto.

In using the device, the nipple 1l is' fitted tightly into the mouth of a bottle or vlal, said bottle or vial and the eye lcup attached therelto being inverted, the bulb 9 is compressed to expel the air therefrom. As long as the cup is maintained in position, the medicament Will be retained within the chamber 8, and thus its proper application is assured. l

An article of manufacture, as thus produced, is very simple and hasproven to be exceedin ly efiicacious. By employing soft rubber, t e ,nip le will be compressed in the neck of the bott e when applied thereto, reventing leakage and permitting the comp ete emptying'of the bottle. Furthermore the eye cup and the bulb are separately and independently compressible so that'v the application .of the former to the eye will not affect the latter, and the discharging operation afforded by the compression of the bulb is independent of the application of the'cup to the eye. Moreover, inasmuch as the medicamen-t` can be withdrawn directly from the bottle or vial into the conduit and bulb and discharged therefrom directly into the eye, it willfnot come into contact with the atmoshere.

A further and -very impcrtantieature of the invention is the compressible eye cup. The reason for employin a compressible cup is that when compresse and applied to the eye, it will effectively prevent the eyelids from closing, thus insuring the perfect-application of the medicament or Wash to the surface or coat of the eye. One of the very serious .objections to applying washes or medicament to the human eye, is the difficulty in keeping the eye ope'n to receive the same.

This device entirely eliminates the difficulty.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-

i.
