Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Adams and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Incubators, of which the fol owing is a specification.
This invention relates to incubators, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide means for automatically regulating the heat in the incubator and for maintaining a predetermined temperature in the incubator.
Another object of the invention is to provide a water boiler and a pipe extending through the boiler and up through the top of the incubator, and a valve for automatically opening the hot air pipe when the temperature is excessive and simultaneously opening the cold air pipe to admit cold air until the roper degree of temperature has been estabished in the incubator.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of an incubator made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 22 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a similar view on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings for a more speciilc description of my invention the numeral 1 designates the in cubator casing which may be of any required size or contour. In the bottom of the casing an aperture 2 is formed and secured underneath the bottom is a collar 3 provided with perforations 4. The casing 1 is provided with a door a which opens into the egg chamber 1) and said casing is mounted on legs 5. A water boiler 6 provided with a surrounding jacket 7 is connected to a pi e 8, the lower end of which extends throug a moisture pan 9 provided with a series of perforations 10. The moisture pan 9 communicateswith the interior of the jacket 7 and at the upper end the jacket 7 is provided with a pipe 11, said pipe surrounding the ipe 8 and terminating within the egg chain er. A filling tube 12 is provided for pouring water into the moisture pan and a tube 13 for the same pur ose is connected to the boiler 6 and extends t rough jacket 7. A packing of mineral wool 14 surrounds the pipe 8 at the lower end between said pipe and the tubular portion of the moisture pan. The upper end of the pipe 8 terminates in a partition 15. Above the artition 15 is a chamber 16, the upper wal 17 of which is provided with a heat outlet pipe 18 and a tubular jacket 19 surrounds the pipe 18 and extends through the top of the incubator casing and terminates in a partition 20.
The heat regulating device consists of a lever 21 pivoted upon a bracket 22 and provided with a disk 23 adapted to cover the top of the heat outlet pipe 18. A rod 24 connected to the lever 21 extends through the top of the casing and through a tube 25. Connected to the lower end of the tube 25 is a yoke 26 and supported upon said yoke is a thermostat 27 to which the lower end of the rod 24 is connected. Attached to the outer end of the lever 21 is a connecting rod 28, the lower end of which is connected to a disk or cover 29. The disk or cover 29 is connected to a lever 30 pivoted upon a bracket 31 se cured to the cold air pipe 32. On the end of the lever 30 is an adjustable counterweight 33. The inner end of the cold air pipe 32 extends through an o ening in the casing 1 and communicates wit a simicircular compartment 34 provided with openings 35 at its in- Her end which communicate with chamber 1 6.
The (Zperation of my invention may be briefly escribed as follows: The counter weight 33 is adjusted so that should the temperature rise to any degree above 101 F. the cap or disk 23 would rise owing to the expansion of the thermostat 27 to permit the hot air to flow out through the pipe 18. The outer end of the lever 21 being then depressed would push down upon the connecting rod 28 and overcome the influence of the counterweight 33 and open the lower end of the cold air pipe 32 to admit cold air into the chamber 34 and through the openings 35 into the chamber 16 and upward into the compartment above the wall 17 and out through the jacket 19. When the temperature in the egg chamber is reduced to say 99 F. the disk or ca 23 is closed by the contraction of the t ermostat 27. Thus a practically uniform degree is maintained in the incubator chamber. The moisture pan 9 insures a proper degree of moisture in the egg chamber. It will be understood that a suitable lamp or heater is placed under the moisture pan. 7 7
Many changes may be made in the details of the construction of my incubator without departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the a pended claim.
Having thus fully descri ed the invention what is claimed as new is:
An incubator provided with a hot air outlet pipe, a lever ivoted to a bracket on the incubator, a dis connected to one end of said lever for closing the outer end of said pipe, a thermostat connected to said lever at a point near the fulcrum, said thermostat being disposed within the incubator, a cold air inlet pipe communicating Withsaid incubator and provided with a down-turned end, a disk for closing the end of said pipe, said disk being connected to a rod and said rod being connected to the lever at the end opposite the one to which the disk for covering the hot air pi e is secured, and a rod having an adjustab e counterweight thereon, said rod bearing against the disk of the cold air pipe.
