JOSEPH H. SNOW, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
Letters Patent No. 91,37 6, dated June 15, 1869.
IIMPRQ'VED AUTOMATIC GAS-REGULATOR FOR BLOW-PIPES.
The Schedule referred to in the Letters Patent and making par Of the lame- To all whom e't may concern 1 Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. Snow, of Providence, inthe county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented an Automatic Gas-Regulator for Jewellers Blow-Pipe; and do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification.
l lhe nature of my invention consists in so arranging the valve, or cockuvhich regulates the supply of gas to the blow-pipe, that the same may be nearly closed, when the pipe is dropped from the hand, but will immediately open tothe' full extent, when again raised by the operator.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use myinvention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 represents aside view, and
Figure 2, a sectional view.
A is the blow-pipe.
B, the flexible tube, by which it is attached to the tube 0, connecting with the regulating-cock D.
Upon thearm E, is placed the adjustable weight F.
This weight is so arranged, that the weight of the tube G, flexible tube B, and blow-pipe, maycounterbalance it, and close the valve; but when the blowpipe and flexible tube are raised in tbehand, the weighted arm E, being heaviest, causes the valve to open, thus letting on a full supply of gas to do the work.
Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of the cock, in sectiori, andillustrates the mode of adjusting the action of the same, by means of the screw G, operating in the notch 9.
Instead of a weight placed upon the arm E, or other- Wise suitably arranged, to operate the cock, as described, a spring may be used, being so adjusted as to open the cock, when relieved from the weight of the flexible tube and blow' pipe.
In the drawing, fig. 1, the full lines represent the position of the cock, when the blow-pipe is dropped from the hand, and the dotted lines show its position, when the pipe is raised.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the blow-pipe A, flexible tube B, and automatic valve D, operating substantially as described.
