To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELVAH O. BULMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roll-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in roll holders, and more particularly to such holders for toilet paper; and its object is to provide a holder from which the roll can not be removed until the paper has been exhausted, to rovide a strong and secure device simple in construction and easily manufactured; and to provide the same with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

My device consists essentially of a sheet metal bracket having the ends of the arms cupped or chambered, and plates secured thereto and provided with central slotted openings to receive the bearings of the roller and a spring tongue struck out from the plate having its movable end adjacent to said opening, and in certain details of construction and arrangement, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawing is which:

The bracket consists of a structure formed of sheet metal having a base 1 adapted to be secured to any convenient sup ort and arms 2 projectin outward from t e respective ends of the ase and having their outer ends made concavo-convex or cupped with the concave sides inward to receive the journals on the ends of the roller 8, on which roller the toilet paper (not shown) is supported.

To the outer end of each arm and opposite the concave side is secured a plate, preferably a disk, by folding the edge of the arm over the same as at 5. In the axis of this disk is the lower end of an opening 7 elongated vertically to bring its upper end above the head 9 on the end of the journal supporting the roller 8. Extending from the upper end of this opening to near the periphery of the disk is a spring tongue 6 struck out of the plate and severed therefrom at the sides and end, the end of which tongue normally closes the upper end of the opening 7. In placing the roller in this device, these spring tongues 6 will yield toward the concave portion of the arm and permit the head of the journal 9 to pass through the opening thus formed and when the ournal is in the lower part of the slot 7, the end of the tongue 6 will pass above said head and come back to the plane of the disk, thus effectually securing the head of the journal within the space between the disk and the end of the arm. This head also engages the inner surface of the disk, effectually reventing spreading of the arms apart, t ius strengthening the structure and insuring retention of the roller in the device until the paper has been removed therefrom, to permit access to the spring tongues 6, which may then be manually forced inward clear of the heads 9 of the journals which can then be removed from the openings in the disk.

What I claim is:

1. A roll holder comprising a base, outwardly extended arms on the base, plates secured to the outer ends of the arms and spaced apart therefrom, each plate having a central 0 ening to receive the journal of the roller am a spring tongue struck out of the plate and having its free end normally in the plane of the plate and closing the side of the opening therein and a roller having journals to enter said 0 enings.

2. A roll ho der comprising arallel arms having concave outer ends, a p ate opposite the concave side of each arm and secured thereto, each plate having an elongated central opening and a spring tongue above the opening, a roller between the arms, and journals ada ted to rotate in the openings and having fieads to engage the surface of the plates adjacent the arms.

3. A roll holder comprising arms having concave ends, a disk opposite the concave end of each arm and secured thereto by folding the edge of the arm over the edge of the disk, each disk also having a slotted opening with its lower end in the axis of the disk and also having a spring tongue severed from the disk at its sides and end, said tongue normally with its free end in the plane of the disk and at the upper end of the slot, a roller between the arms and journals on the roller adapted to enter the slots and having heads to engage the side of the disks adjacent the arms.

4. A roll holder comprising a roller, a journal projecting from the axis of the roller and having a head, a plate secured to a support and having a slot to receive the journal and a spring tongue severed from the plate at the sides and end and with its free end normally i111 the plane of the plate and at the end of the s 0t.

5. In a roll holder, means for securing the roller in place comprising a projection on the roller having a head, a plate having an elongated opening to receive the projection,

a spring tongue severed from the plate at the sides and one end and having its free end at the end of the said opening, and a support for the plate.

6. In a roll holder, the combination of a roller, a journal projecting from the roller and having a head, a plate having a spring tongue severed from theplate at the sides and ends, and also having an elongated opening at the free end of the tongue to receive the journal and a bracket supporting the plate and roller.
