NEEDLE-THREADER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed January 20, 1908. Serial No. 411,647.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
. State of Wisconsin, haveinvented certain new and useful Im rovements in Needle-Threaders,'of which t e following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in needle threaders and the object is to provide means whereby the eye of a needle can be placed over the opening and by the pressure of the thumb on one end of the threader causing a rod to move, forcing a small hook through the eyeof the needle, and the hook gxl'asping the thread and drawing it through .t e eye of the needle, and u on the release of the rod the hook will be rawn within the threader drawing the thread through the eye, thereby threading the needle.
The invention relates to certain novel fea tures of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, Fig. 3 is a view of the hook connected to the rod, Fig. 4 is an end view, and Fig. 5 is a top view.-
A represents the casing, which is provided with two jaws 1, 1 at one end. These jaws have beveled edges 2,. 2, which extend inwardly toward the guide slot 3 formed between the two jaws. The inner faces of the jaws are provided with grooves 4, 4 forming a cylindrical opening through which a rod '5 passes into t e interior of the casing. This rod is provided with guide wings 6, 6, which are received in the guide slot 3 limiting the On the end of the rod 5 is a hook 7 adapted to. ass through the eye of a needle. Surroun ing the rod 5 is a tube 8, which is adapted to bear against the inner ends of the jaws, and encircling the tube 8 is a coil spring 9 also adapted to bear against the inner ends of the jaws. .A push button 10 is adapted to be screwed on to the end of the rod 5 and is received in the end of the casing A, bearing against the spring 9 giving the desired tension to the push button, whereby when the rod is ushed inward pushing the hook 7 up -throug the groove 4 or open end of the casing, the hook will be immediately drawn into the casing upon the'release of the push button.
This invention is used more particularly in threading sewing machine needles but of course it can be used for other needles and the hook end can be made of any size to suit the re uirements.
In threa in the needle, the needle is placed along t e beveled edges 2, 2 of the jaws 1 and having the eye of the needle directly over the opening formed by the grooves, 4,4 for the hook 7 on the rod 5. After the needle has been placed in this position the push button is forced inward against the spring causing thehook to be forced through the eye of the needle when the thread is laced on the hook and the push button re eased, which, by the tension of the spring is caused to be drawn inwardly into the casing drawing the thread through the eye of the needle.
From the foregoing'it will be seen that I have provided a very simple means-for threading needles and which can be manufactured at a small cost, and one where'the book will always-be out of danger of being broken when not in use.
It is evident that slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spiirit and scope of my-invention, .and hence I the exact construction herein set forth, but
do not wish to limit mysel to the casing and between the jaws, guide wings connected to the hook adapted to engage ,the casing for limiting the inward movement of the hook, a tube surrounding the shank of the hook, a coil springencircling the tube, and a push button connected to the shank of the hook for operating the same.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JENS K. STOCKLAND.
