Description

THREE WAY NATURAL GAS BURNER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 11, 190B.

Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
UNITED srarns PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES ONEIL, OF LAWRENOEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
THREE-WAY NATURAL-GAS BURNER.
Application filed July 11,
To aLZ whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, James ONEIL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrenceville, in the county of Lawrence and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Three-Vary Natural-Gas Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in three-way natural gas burners, and its various objects are to attain cheapness of construction, economy in the consumption of gas, and compactness of parts whereby it occupies a minimum amount of space in the fire-box of a stove, so that in case of the failure of gas, other fuel such as wood and coal, may be used without removing theburner.
Further objects are to provide a burner which may be easily installed in an ordinary stove, and to provide aburner made in a single casting.
l'Vith these objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings :I*igure 1 is a view in side elevation, and Figs. 2 and 3 are transverse sections at different points.
A, B, and C, represent pipes, all three of which are preferably cast together with spacing means 1, 1, between them at intervals, and held together by union 2 at the supply end of the burner. The intermediate pipe is offset at or near the center, and the shorter pipe A is thus brought into alinement with the outer end of pipe B being located in the offset. in pipe B. Pipes A and B are perforated at the top and through these perforations the gas issues upward, whereas the lower pipe C is perforated at the side to throw the flame laterally. Pipe A is intended for one lid over the fire-box of the stove or range, and pipe B for the other lid, whereas pipe G is adapted for heating the oven or waterback, or both. One of the pipes, preferably pipe or burner C is provided with a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
1908. Serial No. 4%,085.
tee 5 at the one end as a-means of securing the burner in position in the stove or range.
It will be observed that the pipes are all in a vertical plane, one directly above another, thus occupying a minimum space in the firebox. At the same time the pipes are cast without partitions or other complications while at the same time they are formed in a single casting. Each burner is connected with a separate valve (not shown) making it possible to have one or all of the burners lighted at the same time. In this way I provide a three-way natural gas burner to be used in any ordinary wood or coal cooking stove or range, and it would be a small matter to make it a four-way burner by adding another pipe similar to pipe U.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but
I'Iaving fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1- 1. A natural gas burner comprising a plurality of vertically alined perforated pipes one pipe otl'set at or near the center, and another pipe located in the recess formed by the offset in alinement with the outer end of the pipe having the offset.
2.. A natural gas burner comprising a plu rality of vertically alined perforated pipes one pipe offset at or near the center, another pipe located in the recess formed by the olfset in alinement with the outer end of the pipe having the offset, and one pipe having a tee for securing the burner in the stove or range.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES ONEIL.
