UNITED STAES PATENT OFFICE.
ULYSSES G. MCQUEEN, OF NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO GRANT PULLEY AND HARDWARE COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
SASH-CHAIN GUIDE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ULYSSES G. MCQUEEN, citizen of the United States, residing at New Rochelle, county of VVestchester, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Sash-Chain Guide, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sash chain guides for use in conjunction with over-head pulleys, and the objects of myimprovement are to provide asimple and ornamental protection to the head piece of the window frame against the wear of the chain and the other advantages which are hereinafter set forth. I at tain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a portion of a window frame with my chain guide in place. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of my device. Fig. 3 represents a modification.
I11 the use of over-head window sash pulleys, it is necessary to have an opening in the head-piece for the chain or cord which connects the sash and the counterbalancing weights. In the raising and lowering of the sash, the sides of this opening become worn and disfigured through the striking of the chain, and when the lower sash is raised to the limit, the sash lock strikes the headpiece and disfigures it. By my invention, these objections are overcome, and at the same time, an ornamental and attractive finish is given to the chain opening, as will hereinafter appear.
In the drawings, A represents a thimble, shaped to conform to the chain opening in the head-piece, and provided at its base with a flange B, which overlaps the bottom edge of the chain opening and forms an ornamental finish to the same. The thimble A is supported by the bracket C, consisting of upright sides D, provided with wings E, having screw holes therein, for fastening the device to the window frame. At the foot of the bracket a stop-plate F is formed. Of course, the bracket would stop the rise of the window, but by having stop-plate F with Specification of Letters Patent.

a comparatively large, flat surface, but little or no impression is made in the sash by its contact therewith.
The modification illustrated in Fig. 3
shows the thimble without the bracket C, and is designed for use where neither the stop nor curtain support is desired. A flange P is substituted for the bracket as a support for the thimble. This flange rests upon the top of the head-piece, or in case the head-piece 1S thicker than usual, is countersunk therein, thus securing the thimble in )lace. The device illustrated in Fig. 2 shows a construction specially adapted for use where it is desired to arrange two curtain rollers in the window. The front portion K, in which the slot M is shown, can be omitted from the device when intended for ordinary use, and thus save expense. I do not make any claim in this application, however, for the curtain roller feature thus described.
I claim:
1. A sash chain guide consisting of an antifriction thimble adapted to be inserted in the chain opening in the head piece and provided with a retaining flange, and an external rib at its base.
2. A chain guide for window frames consisting of an anti-friction thimble adapted to be inserted in the chain opening in the headpiece of the window frame, said thimble being supported by a bracket provided with a stop-plate and means for securing the same to the window frame.
3. A chain guide for window frames consisting of an anti-friction thimble adapted to be inserted in the chain opening in the headpiece of the window frame, said thimble being provided with an external rib at its base, and supported by a bracket provided with a stop-plate, and means for securing the same to the window frame.
