IMPROVED CARBURETER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 91,213, dated June 15, 1869.
. reters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in placing the oil-reservoir or feed-tank above the cabureter in gas-carbureting machines, and then causing a iow of cold water to pass around each and every part of said tanks, with their pipes, so as to retain or restore the latent heat lost by evaporation to about the temperature of the water thus employed.
To enable a person skilled in the art to manufacture and use my machine, I will proceed to describe its construction.
In the annexed drawing is represented a vertical section of my invention.
A represents a tank containing the carburetinguid; B, the inclosed space in which the gas or air is brought into contact with the carbureting-iiuid; C, an outer case; D, a pipe leading from near top of tank A to near bottom of space B; E, a pipe leading from near the bottom of tank A to near the bottom of space B, and having at any convenient point a device by which said pipe E may be effectually closed. F is the inlet-pipe, through which the gas or air enters the inclosed space B 5 G, the outlet-pipe from inclosed space B. H is the pipe through which the carburetinguid is admitted into tank A, and extends to a point near the bottom of tank A. I is an ordinary waterpipe, closed with a cock or other suitable device at any desirable point. K is a pipe conveying off the surplus water from any convenient point of case C.
The operation of my invention is as follows: Having closed the cock or other device in pipe E, tank A is almost entirely iilled with the carbureting-lud. The space between tank A and space B, and to top of case C, is then iilled with water or any other desirable iiuid. The closing device in pipe E is opened. The air or gas is admitted to space B through pipe F, and nds an exit through pipe G.
The pipe I receives the water from any desirable source, and is discharged at K into a sewer or other convenient receptacle.
Having thus described the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of a case, C, filled (or owing through) with water or other desirable fluid, with tank A and space B, with their appropriate connections.
2. Restoring the latent heat to a carburetin g-uid by means of a stream of water, operating substantially as set forth.
