To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, LUIGI BBUNAQOI, a subject of the Kingof Italy, and a resident of the city of New York, borough ofManhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Im roved Electric Safety-Razor, of which the fo owing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to safety razors such as used by men in shaving.
The object of the invention is to produce a razor of simple construction having blades operated by electrical means, and shielded in such a way that they may be applied to the face without danger of cutting t e skin.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifica tion in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in. all the fig- WIPES.
Figure 1 is a side elevation and longitudinal section through the device, the section being taken on the line 1--1 of Fig. 2 through the drum of thedevice; Fig. 2 is across section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan showing a modified construction for securing the drum in position; and Fig. 4 is a perspective showing the blade holder and illustrating the manner of constructing the same, and the manner of securing the blades thereto.
Referring more particularly to the arts, 1 represents the drum, barrel, or guard device, which is of cylindrical form, as shown. This drum is formed of light sheet metal or similar material, and its lower-half is solid that is, it is im erforate, as indicated in Fig. 2. The upper alf of the drum or barrel is provided with a lurality of inclined slots 2,
as indicated in ig.. 1. These slots are disposed quite close"together so that this part of the barrel presents a plurality of inchned guard bars 3.
The barrel 1 is'provided atits inner extremity with a threaded neck 4 whic is adapted to be screwed into a substantially circular head 5. Through this head passes a shaft 6 which is an extension of the shaft of an electric motor 7, said motor being attached upon a bracket 8 projectingfrom the loweredge of the head 5, as indicated. lower end of this handle 9, an electric cord 10 passes into the same, and by means of a switchll, the current may be turned off or on through the motor. The head 5 is a part of the'bracket 8 and is offset from the axis of the handle; the motor is seated centrally on the axis of the handle.
The outer end of the barrel 1, is provided with an integral head 12. The shaft 6 extends "througli this head and "its projecting extremity is provided with a removable thumb nut '13, which holds the barrel in position, as will be-readilyunderstood. On the inner side of the head 5, a washer 14 is received, and this washer is formed with a centrally disposed boss 15 which project; into the interior of the barrel and arotni the shaft 6, as indicated. Within the bsrrrl, on the shaft .6, there is fixed a blade holder 16,
the construction of which is most clearly shown in Fig. 4. This blade holder presents two oppositely disposed cross heads 17, the
outer ends ofwhich are connected by curved cheek plates 18. The outer edges of these cheek plates 18 are bent over so as to form flanges or lips 19, which are adapted to receive the ends of the razor blade 20, as shown. These cheek plates near their middle parts are provided with short circumferential slots 21, which facilitate the attachment of the blades in position.' The blades are curved, as shown, and their cutting edges 22 project beyond the forward side of the cross head with respect to the direction of rotation. Each blade is provided with. a clamping screw 23, whch projects inwardly through the slot 21 so as to receive a clamping thumb nut 24, as shown in Fig. 4. The slots 23-enable the blades 20 to beadjusted as desired, so that they will lie just within the wall of the barrel. The curvature of the blades and cheek plates is such that the blade handle fits nicel within the barrel, as indicated in Fig. 2, with the; cuttin edges presented quite close to the inner si e of the barrel wall.

Instead of attaching the barrel in position by means of the screw threads as described, I may provide a construction such as that vided with a flange 32 whch projects toward the barrel. This flange 32 is rovided with a slot 26 having a longitudina extension 27, a cross extension 28, and a tail or short longitudinal extension 29. The barrel is then provided with an outwardly projecting pin 31. This pin can be seated in the tail 29 by giving the barrel two inward movements separated by a rotary movement, in other words the slot is simply a bayonet slot having a pocket or seat for the pin, which revents the pressure of the flesh upon'it when the razor is in use.

1. A safety razor having a handle, a bracket attached to the end of said handle and having an oflset upwardly projecting head, an electric motor seated on said bracket and having a shaft extending through said head, a substantially cylindrical guard attachedto the outer side of said head, and a rotary blade holder attached to said shaft Within said guard.
2. A safety razor having a handle, a bracket attached to the end thereof and havmg an ofiset head with a flange in the. outer face thereof, an electric motor mounted on said bracket substantially on the axis of said handle, a shaft extending throu h said head, a substantially cylindrical guar attached to said flange and receiving said shaft, and a rotary blade holder mounted on said shaft withshown 1n Fig. 3, in which the head 30 is proin said guard.
3. A safety razor having a cylindrical guard with inclined slots formed therein, a rotary blade holder mounted within said guard, and means for driving said blade holder.
4. In a safety razor, in combination, a blade holder consisting of curved cheek lates having flanges at the edges thereof and aving. adjusting slots, blades having the edges thereof retained by said flanges, and a bolt connecting said blades with said check plates at said slots.
5. A safety razor having a cylindrical guard with erforations in the wall thereof, a rotary bla e holder mounted in said guard, having curved cheek plates lying ad acent to the inner side of the wall of said guard, said check plates having means at the ends thereof for retaining blades, blades attached -on said cheek plates, and means for adjustably securing said blades to said cheek plates.
