Specification of Letters Patent.

To all 'whom 'it may concern:

' Be it known that I, ROBERT'H; PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naynesborm in the county of Wayne and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedstead- Braces, of which the following is a specification. i

This invention relates to bedsteads, having especial reference to a meansof bracin and supporting the same.l

An object ot' this invention is to provide a device of this character with a means whereby it can be easily and readily tightened.

A further object of the invention is to provide fastening means of simple construction which is durable and which can be easily operated. n V

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from thet'ollowing description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope 01: the claim withf out departing from the spirit of the invention. Y

In the drawings forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a top plan view of the complete device.- Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.

Referring now more particularly tothe drawings, 10 and 11 designateV the head and the foot of the bed respectively. The head and foot 10 and 11 of the bed support the side rails l2 and 13, the opposite ends of all of said members being engaged in suitable corner posts 14. The inner angles of the posts 14 are provided with hook eyes 15 which are carried upon the extremities of screw members or of bolts of a suitable structure by which they may be secured to the posts 14. The side rails 12 and 13 are provided with suitable hook eyes 16 which are disposed in pairs alongk the inner edges thereof and which are adapted to support a cable 17 which is diagonally disposed up and down between the side rails and foot 11 and 'head 12. The cable 17l is thus positioned and causes three intersections as designated by 18, 19 and 20. The cable 17 is adapted to be slidably engaged by the hook eyes 15 and 16 in order that the same may be tightened. For the purpose of tightening the cable 17 the following device is employed. At the intersection 18 a portion of wire bent U-shaped designated by the numeral 21 is provided upon its free ends with downwardly extending hook portions 22 which engage the opposite intersecting wires upon the central side of the intersection, 18. The intersection 20 of the cable 17 is'also provided with a hook of like structure 23. The hook 21 centrally supports the upperlooped end of a cross wire 24 through which is passed a section of wire cable 25.' The section of cable 25 extendsfrom the loop in the end of the cross bar 24 to the lower intersection 20 of the cable 17 where it intermediately engages the hook 23.

The cable 25 is secured in such position by tying the same or by the employment of any convenient and adaptable fastening device as desired.

From the construction of the device and the above description the operation can readily be seen. When the hookeyes 15 and 16 are secured in their proper places on the posts 14 and the side rails 12 and 13 the cable 17 is threaded through the eyes 16 and 15 diagonally across the bed between the side rails 12 and 13 and across in parallel with the head 10 and the foot 11 to opposite ends of the bed. This arrangement of the cable 17 causes the same to be made into one continuous cable so that in drawing any portion of the cables tight the strain will be communicated throughout the entire cable. When it is desired to tighten the device the operator disengages the cable 25 from the hooked member 2O and tightens or shortens the same to reduce the distances between the intersections 18, 19 and 20 of the cableV 17.

What is claimed is:

A device of `the character described comprising a plurality of hook eyes supported upon a bedstead, an endless cable slidably mounted in said hook eyes adapted to hold the same in a taut position, said cable diag'- onally disposed across said bedstead, and adapted to intersect at the head and at the foot of said bedstead, detachable hooks adapted to engage said Cable at the points of intersection, a wire carried by one o1- said hooks7 an adjustable rope Carried by the other of said hooks, said Wire and said ropes adapted io be slidably connected :if their inner extremities.
