SPecificafiion0f Letters Patent. v
- Patented Feb. 2, 1909.-
pplication filed ifauiuary 10, 1908. Serial'No. 4.102'71.
T0 all whom mag concem:
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. *CURRENT, a citizen of tl1e United States, residing ab Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and use:ful Improvements in Collarv Attaeh- 1nents, 0f which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplixtes certain new and useful improvements in harness and the object 0f the invention is an in1prox ed' 001 lar attachment which is designed to be applied to the collar t0 raise the latter sulficiently t-0 prevent the withers from resting 011 the horses neck and chafing the same, or t0 enable a sore already formed 011 the neck t0 heal.
With this and otherobjeets in view that Will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in Certain constructions and arrangements of parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
F01 a full understzinding of the inven tion and the meritsl thereof, reference is t0 loe had to the following description am]. tl1e accompanying drawing, in Which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my ina-- proved collar attachment, Fig. 2 is a front elevapion thereof With parts in section, and Fig. 3 is a side elevati'on with parts in section.
Corresponding and like parts aie referred 130 in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the Same 'reference characters. V
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designat es tw o spaced-suspension straps ofs crips of-canvas or the1ike which aredes1gned to extend 0V01 "the horses neck, one
in front of'the collar and 0n e in the rear of' tions 01: the strap a1; one side 0f the horses ne'ck, so that the buckle Will not ohafe the same.
Th side bars 2 are designed t0 be suspen-ded above ehe hame tugs 0f the hames of the00llar, and are bent oppositely and Outwar dly intermediate of their ends t0 fit ehe contour of the collar and thus cause the ends of the suspension straps 130 lie flat against the h'orses neck, and increase the bearing surfaces 0f said strapS. Secured t0 the mid dle points 0f these s ide bars aie tw0 attaching straps 5, saicl strapspreferably passing through longitudinal slots 6 formed near the middl0 of the side bars. These attaching stra'ps5 are provioled with buckles 7 so that they can be buckled through longitudinal slots 8 formed in the shanks of the hame tugs 9 in frpnt of the hooks proper 10, the attaching straps being pulled tight enough t0 .rais6 the collar sufliciently to preventthe withers from resting 0n the horses neck.
The shanks of the hame tugs 9 are pivotally secured at their forward extremities to the hames, in the usual manner, and it is to be observed that in acldition t0 their functions ab0ve n0ted, the attaching straps 5 passed through the slots 8 serve to hold the hame tugs close against the collar, and prevent them from swingingj outwamly when the traces are disengaged therefrom.
Fr0m the above description in conneotion With the accompanying drawing, the use 0f my ilnproved collar pad is obvious.
It is t0 be particularly noted, by referring t0 Fig. 3, that the suspension straps 1 pass aorossthe inside 0f the bars 2, so as to be interposed betw een the ends 0f the same and the horseshid0 and preveno .any possible chafingfhereof, while the attaching straps 5 extend from tl1e outside of the bars, so as not t0 be arrai1ged between the same and the c0llar, and thus permit the side bars 130 l0e held close againsbthe latter.
I-Iaving thus described the invent-ion, what I elaim is:
The combination witha collar provided 011 opposite sides with hame tugs 0mbodying hooks proper and shanks arranged ab the forward ends of tl1e l100ks proper and pivotally connected to the collar and formed with longitudinal slots, 0f an attachment 0f the character described, comprising suspensi0n straps designed to extend across a horses nach, 0ne in front 0f und the 0ther in the rear oi the 0011211, side bars to the ends 0f which the suspension stmps a1e secured to support the side ba1s above the hzune Bugs, and attaching straps connected to the side bars intermediate 0f the ends thereof 2111d buckled th1ough the s1ots in the ha1ne tugs, as and. 1"01 the purposu specifiebl. .I v
