SANITARY SHIELD FOR TELEPHONES.
specincation of Letters Patent. Patented Jan. 19, 190e.
Application Afiled June 10, 1907. Serial No. 378,119.
To all whom #may concern:
Be it known that I, OWEN H. HUnenN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State/f California, have invented new and shield which is at once convenient and exuseful Improvements in Sanitary Shields for tremel sanitary as it may be easily removed Telephones, of which the following is a specit from the mouthpiece and thorou hly sterilication. i ized before replacing.
My invention relates to a shield for telematerial it does not. impede the assage of phonetransmitter mouthpieces, and an obk sound waves to the transmitter iaphragm ject thereof is to provide a sanitary shield p and so does not impair the efficiency of the which may b e readily put on the mouthpiece tele hone. and quickly removed therefrom and sterilavi'ng described my invention what I ized. I accomplish this object by means of claim as new andriesire to secure by Letters the device described herein and illustrated in Patent, is the accompanying drawings, in which x- A telephone Figure 1-is a plan of my improved shield. Fig. 2-is a central cross section of the same. Fig. S-is a view of a telephone transmitter my shield. Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a disk of elastic material, preferably rubber, having a beaded edge 6 also preferably of rubber. The body portionhof the disk is made very thin so that it Till not impede the passage of sound waves to the transmitter when on the mouthpiece in the position shown in Fig. 3. The bead is heavier than the body portion and its diameter is considerablyless than the diameter of the mouthpiece' so that the whole shieldl must be stretched in order to put it on the mouthpiece 7. When in this position as, illustrated 8, the elasticity of the beaded edge holds the shield from sli ping ofi and the disk portion is stretched tightly over the mouthpiece.
It will be observed that I have produced a transmitter shield, comi thin elastic material an of a smaller diameter than the telephone mouth piece, said diaphragm having formed integrally therewith on its periphery an annular ri of relatively heavy elastic material, said rib being substantially circular in crosssection and projecting equally beyond the plane of each face of the diaphragm, whereby either side may be utilized as an ,outer face.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 1st day of June, 1907.
OWEN H. HUDGEN.
