specification of letters Patent. Patented Feb. H2 l fil ie Application filed February 19, 1817. Serial No. 149,478.
To all whom it may concern: I I Be it known that l, MARIE S. Fnnnnrmra, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Attachments for Telephone-Transmitters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary attachments for the mouth-place of telephone transmitters, the object being to .rovide a simple device that can be attac ed to or detached from the mouth-piece of a telephone transmitter by an unskilled person in a few seconds. My lmproved device may be designed for permanent attachment to such a mouth-piece, or to be carried by a person and applied to the mouthicce of a public telephone. The object o my invention is to prevent the spread of contagious diseases, or to prevent the collection of germs in the mouth-piece of telephone transmitters.
To carry out the object of my invention, 1 provide a carrier having a pad treated with an antiseptic solution, the said carrier being designed to be snapped onto a mouthpiece, the said carrier and pad being preferably perforated to permit of the passage of sound-waves.
T will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novel features of which I will point out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of a telephone-transmitter mouth-piece having my improvement attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a faceview thereof, looking from the left in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a face view of the antiseptic pad;
and
range the plate 7 so that it can be readily removed from the carrier.
To adapt the plate for removal, at will, I. provide the same with peripheral recesses 1 in order that the said plate can be posltioned between the pad 6 and projections 12 on the carrier 5 for the purpose of maintaining the pad in position. As can be seen in Fig. 1, the pad 6 is located within the cupped portion 13 of the carrier 5 between right or left Wlll cause the recesses to move away from the projection 12, after which pressure upon the plate can be removed, allowing the elasticity of the pad 6, to force the plate'outwardly against the projections 12. Fig. 2 illustrates the plate in locked position. The pad 6 can be made out of any material capable of being treated with an antiseptic solution (felt for instance).
To adapt the carrier to releasably engage a mouth-piece, illustrated by 15 Fig. l, I provide the same with an annular flange consisting of a plurality of yieldable tongues or members 16 slightly curved to form an annular recess 17 to receive the edge 18 of the mouthpiece 15. The tongues 16 will yield sufiiciently to permit the carrier to be quickly applied to or detached from the mouth-piece.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination of a cup shaped carrier, having a perforated base, a perforated antiseptically treated pad located within the cup-portion of said carrier and contacting with said perforated base, a perforated retaining plate forsaid pad, means carried by the carrier to engage and retain said plate in position, and a plurality of resilient tongues carried by said carrier to engage the mouth-piece of a telephone transmitter.
2. An attachment for the mouth-piece of a telephone transmitter, consisting of a perforated carrier, an antiseptic pad supported by said carrier, a plate for holding said pad (ill in position, and projections on the carrier for retaining the plate in position thereon, said plate being provided with cut away portions or recesses on its peripheral edge to allow insertion and withdrawal thereof past said projections.
3. An attachment for the mouth-piece of a telephone transmitter, consisting of a cupshaped carrier, the base of which is perforated, an antiseptic pad seated in said carrier, a perforated plate for holding said pad in position, and projections on said carrier for retaining said late in position within the cup portion 0 the carrier, said perforated plate being provided with cut 15 away portions or recesses on its peripheral edge to allow insertion and withdrawal of said plate past said projections. Signed at-New York city, N. Y., this 16th day of Februar 1917. Y
MYARIE S. FEDERMAN. Witnesses:
