Description

tnterl twins am emo.
Lette/rs Patent No. 91,008, dated June- 8, A1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN MANUFACTURE OF ORES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To whom 'it mag/'concern .Be it kuown'that I, SAMUEL FULTON, of Conshohocken, in the county of Montgomery, and State'of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Making Pipe-Cores; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionA thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. y
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in makingv the. cores for casting metal pipes for conveying water, gas, compressed or heated air, and for other purposes, and consists in apparatus hereinafter described, whereby I am enabled to construct the core in an upright position, which greatly facilitates the operation of forming the core.
In the accompanying drawing the ligure represents the core-bar, with the forming-tube in place around thebar, the tube being shown in section.
A is the bar, or centre of the core, which may be formed and prepared for the sand r loam in the usual manner. It may be made collapsible, if desired, and
of any required length and diameter.
B is the forming-tube, which may be made with an expanded upper end, or bell-shaped, for containing the proper quantity of sand-or loam for covering the bar.
When placed in a vertical position, as seen in the drawing, and filled with the proper material, the forming-tube B is raised with the crane or by other means upwarch leavingvthe bar A covered with the requisite quantity of sand, loam, or other material, which, in the drawing, is represented by O, leaving the core of the diameter of the lower end of the tube B, as seen in Figure 2.
The savingin time secured by this method of? making pipe-core is fvery important, more especially in the manufacture of the smaller sizes of iron pipe, and its advantages will be readily understood and appreciated by fonndrymen.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In combination with the centralbarof a core for casting metal pipes, the forming-tube B, substantially asand for the purposes described.
The above specification of my invention signedby me, this 6th day of J annary, 1869.
SAMUEL FULTON.
