PUNCHING-MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUeUsr HOLMGREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lake Park, in the county of Becker and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Punching- Machines; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in'the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to punching machines; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the punching machine. Fig. 2 is a front view of the machine. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view, taken on the line 00-00 in Fig. l.
A is the frame of the machine provided with two parallel side bars 64 having feet 6 at their bottoms and projections B at their upper ends.
C is a central bar for stiffening the frame,
a and having no feet or projections.
I) is a loop-shaped bracket for supporting the die-block or table E; and F is a loopshaped guide for the punch. The forked end portions of the bracket 1) and guide F are arranged to straddle the central bar C and to come between the side bars a, and all the said parts are rigidly secured together by rivets c. When constructed in this man ner the bars a and C can be made of forged or rolled metal, so that there is less liability of fracture than when the frame is made of cast iron. WVhen a wrought iron frame is used the machine is also lighter and takes up less room in shipment.
G is a crank for operating the punch. This crank is formed on a crankshaft g which is journaled in bearings b on the projections B. Plates 0 are provided for holding the said shaft in engagement with its bearings, and these plates are secured to the projections B.
H are arms secured to the crankshaft and provided with notched quadrant-plates h.
I is an operating-lever pivoted to the arms H by a pin it. The lever I is provided witha retractable catch '21 for engaging with the Specification of Letters Patent.

J is a connecting-bar which is pivoted at its upper end to the crank G. The lower end'of this bar is provided with a recessed socket j having a rounded bearing surface and having side flanges j.
K is the punch provided with a stem 70 which is slidable in the guide F, and which has a rounded head is at its upper end pro vided with a projection m.
L is a hook which is pivoted to the bar J by a pin m, and which engages with the projection m, so that the head is is held in engagement with the socket j.
N is a die-block or table which rests on the bracket D and which is provided with a screw threaded stem 01. The table N is pro vided with die-holes a of various sizes, and it may be turned around and slid about so as to bring any desired die-hole under the punch. A nut P is screwed upon the stem n, and is provided with a notched operatingwheel 7 R is a lever journaled on the nut P and provided with a retractable catch 39' for engaging with the notches of the operatingwheel.
This punching machine is very useful in jobbing shops, as the punches can be changed very quickly so as to adapt the machine to a great variety of work. It is simply constructed, is very strong and stiff, and is not liable to get out of order.
hat I claim is:
1. In a punching-machine, the combination, with a frame comprising three parallel bars, the two outer bars being longer than the center bar and provided with projections at their upper ends, of means for operating the punch carried by the said projections, a bracket and a guide each having forked end portions inserted between the said outer bars and the center bar, fastening devices securing the said end portions to the said bars, a punch slidable in the said guide, and a dieblock carried by the said bracket.
