WILHELM HERBST, OF BERLIN-STEGLITZ, AND EMll. JIII'JCKMANN, OF BARUEN- UNlERlt-XRMEN, GERMANY.
FIREPROOF GIRDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented Jan. 19, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Winnnmi Hennsr, and EMU. DlEGKMANN, both citizgm oi many, and residents, respectively, ct? Berlinteglitz and Barmen-Unterbarnneo. Germany, have invented new and useful 1m Mm'einents in Fireproof Girders, of which (hi3 following a specification.'
This invention relates to a fire mr girder which is light, of great strength and may be readily put up.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a ground plan of a ceiling provided with our improved girder; Fig. 2 an enlarged section on line ABCDEF, Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a similar section on line G-H, Fig. 1.
In carrying out our invention, we provide a number of preformed reinforced concrete slabs a, arranged in pairs, each pair forming the flanks of one of the girders depending from the ceiling. Between each pair of slabs a, are interposed one or more preformed re inforced concrete beams b, forming the lower face of the girder and provided with a web extending into the interior of. the girder, the upper end of such web being roughened.
Slabs a, as well as beams I), are provided with metal cores and are brought to the building in finished condition. Between slabs a, and webs of beams Z), are formed grooves or channels in which are contained large lumps of spaced beton or chipped bricks m, to form air spaces. Upon these bricks or filling pieces are supported beton plates f, arranged between the slabs and below the upper ends thereof. Upon plates f, is placed a beton layer c, which encompasses the upper roughened ends of beams b, and will thus, on setting, firmly unite therewith. The main body of the ceiling is composed of a suitable beton skeleton which does not form partof this invention, the beams c, of this skeleton resting directly upon slabs a. A beton layer 1, extends over the entire ceiling'and unites with layers a, to form an integral body.
In constructing the girder, slabs a, and beams Z), are placed across the walls of the building, a scaffolding g, is erected, the coiling-skeleton is built up on said slabs and scaffolding, the grooves between the tapering bases of slabs a, and beams b, are filled with cement '22, the girders are provided with the spaced filling pieces on. and plates f, and finally the beton layers 0, (Z, are applied. The scaffolding may be removed before the baton-layers have completely set.
"0 claim:
A fire proof girder, comprising a. pair of preformed reinforced concrete slabs forming the sides of the girder, a. preformed reinforced concrete beam forming the lower face of the girder and provided with a web extending into the interior of the girder, spaced filling pieces between the slabs, plates supported on the spaced filling pieces, and a beton layer supported by the plates, substantially as specified.
Signed by us at Bar-men, Gernurny, this 22nd day of June, 1908.
