To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Ln row, a eitizen of the Unit States, residing at lVillowton, in the county of Mercer and State of llest- Virginia, have invented eertnin new and useful lmproveineni's in Wire Stretchers; and I do hereby declare the :i'ol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact deseriplion of the invention, such as will enable othern skilled in the art to which it zipper lfllflS to make and use the same.
This invention relates to wire stretchers, more particularly to device of this character employed for stretching the strand nienr bers of wire fem-es, and ban for one of its objects to Simplify and improve the construction and increase the ei'llcicne and utility of devices of this clinrmirter.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists in a stock or frame constructed from a plurality of angle bars (coupled at the ends with the. confronting edges spaced apart to Form gnii'lewnys and with oppositely disposed ratchet teeth. in the bars, a slidable member within the. stock, a draw rod connected to the slidable. member, and lever swinging through the slidnblo member and pr vided with n pawl rib adapt ed to engage the ratchet teeth alternately.
The invention further cons i in certain G. Triennnovel features of construction {15 hereafter l'-' r''*l which are riveted or otherwise so mired thereto .it 16, the confronting edges of the angle bars spaced apart to form guide ways extending longitudinally oi. the sioclii. i wit 1 Erie edge of the bar 12 in pro ratchet teeth 17 while one edge 0 i3 is provided with corresponding teeth i'l.
Slidnbly disposed within the stool; are two blocks l9--20, the bioclrs extending respecti ely between the angle bars lil ll and 12 m and coupled ontnide he bars by phi. 2 22 extending zit the when over the bars the four parts l9--2 l- 2-; r

.ln using the iinprovcitl device, the hook 23 is coupled by a chain 30 to a ntzitionaiy 0bjeet, or to a post especially erected for the purpose, and (he siidnble lever cnraying member moved to the opposite end OI the t; with the rod 2-icxtending beyond the stoc The hool: 25 is then coupled to the wire to be stretched by a suitable grip device indicateiil zit 3i. The lever 27 is than ongaged alternately with the teeth li -18 by its pawl rib iii and moved back and :iorth upon its pin 20, end thne mo *e the slidzible member step by step to the hook end of the stock. The lever 37 is eoneiderizhly th nner than the spaces between the bars 10 between the bars LL--1 that l released from the ieetlnthe lever can be moved pawl rib 2!) upon i'liQ pin 26 to clear the from engagement with the and thus enable the slidnble member to r'et. the lever and rod 24 lo be moved bodily in the stock. fly this niezine when the wire has bcen irctehed on far as the length (iii the oel; "i l nern'ait, the partly stretched wire is secured zind the slidnble member :nljnsied to ii new nosimni and the innervation repeat:- ed. and so on as often in; i'iecessz ry.
