AReferring to Fig. 1 the reference numeral 25 indicates an endless conveyer suitably supported adjacent to the machine and upon which the cigarettes may be placed in any suitable manner and by any suitable means. Each jaw 96 iscarried'by a. lever 99 'to which are pivoted the levers 100 and 101. The lever 100 is pivoted at 102 to the rocking lever 103, which is. pivoted at 100 and the rocking lever 103 is rocked by the coaction ot its camroll 104 and the cam 10T andgives the jaw 90 the back and forth motion with respect to the cigarette. The lever 101 is also pivoted at 10G and is moved up and down by the coperation of its cam roll 107 and the cam 10S, the springs 10SM-100 keeping the rolls on their respective cams, which latter arc carried on the shafts TT and 7S as shown.

ln order to progress tht` cigarettes trom the table 301 provide h'ands (see Fig. l). These hands carry the cigarettes from the shelf 47 upon which they are deposited fromA v p urpose of holding the cigarette while the tip is being made, and this hand is carried by a lever 140 pivoted at 141 to a suitable standard and rocked by the coaction of its roll 142 with cam 143 on shaft 144 driven from shaft 128 by gears 131 and 145.- The crank disk 138 is also mounted on shaft 144 and carries .a roll 146for lifting the lever 134, whereby the hands 132 are given a motion similar to the carriers 41, but in the opposite direction.

The shafts 77, 78 and 79 are driven in unison from the driving shaft 35 by means of connections 80 as shown. The operation of the above parts will'be clear from the following: The cigarette is placed upon the shelf 47 by the carriers 41 and is carried by the hands 132 until it is placed above the. member 120 where the gummed cork to form the tip has been placed by any suitable means. N ext the tip is formed by the combined actions of the two jaws 96 while the member 120 exerts a slight upward pressure and almost simultaneously with this the seaming member 150 descends and closes the lap on the cigarette, after which the hands 132 carry the finished cigarette away from the tipping mechanism and on to the conveyer 133 by means of which the finished product is finally removed from the machine.

Various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. In a cigarette tipping machine, the combination of a feeding mechanism comprising means for supplying'cigarettes in a given position, hands for sliding said cigarettes from said given position into position to be wrapped, means for raising and moving said hands in the direction of said cigarettes including means for lowering said hands upon the cigarettes and returning saine to their oriUinal position with said cigarettes, a jaw for holding` each of said cigarettes in ,said position to be wrapped, wrapping means for closing the tip around the cigarette, a seaming member for closing the tip upon each cigarette, other hands for sliding the tipped cigarettes away from said seaming member anda discharge conveyer for removing same.

2. In a cigarette tipping machine, the combination of a feeding mechanism, hands and means for raising and moving said hands in the direction of the cigarettes as they are fed into the lmachine including means for lowering said hands upon and returning same to their original position with said cigarettes, Ameans for supporting Veach cigarette in position to be wrapped, wrapping jaws for folding'the `tip around the cigarette, a seaming member for closing the tip upon the cigarette and means for removing the tipped cigarettes,

3. In a cigarette tipping machine, the combination of a cigarette separating mech-- anism, a conveying mechanism for conveying-the cigarettes singly into themachine, v

hands and means for raising and moving said hands inthe direction of the conveyed cigarettes including means for lowering said hands upon and returning same to their original position with said cigarettes,l a tipping mechanism for providing each cigarette with a tip, means for holdingeach cigarette in position to be ,tipped and means for removing the tipped cigarettes from 'the tipping mechanism. v

4. In a cigarette tipping machine, theA combination of a cigarette separator and conveyer, a table upon which said cigarettes are conveyed to a tipping mechanism hands and means for raising and moving said hands over said table and in the direction of said conveyer including means for lowering said hands upon said cigarettes upon said table and returning said hands to their original position with said cigarettes to said, tipping mechanism, and means for removing the tipped cigarettes.

5. In a cigarette tipping machine, the combination of a feeding mechanism comprising means for supplying vcigarettes in a given position, hands for sliding said cigarettes from said given position into position to be wrapped, means for raising and moving said hands in the direction of said cigarettes includingI means for lowering said hands upon the cigarettes and returning same to theiroriginal position with said cigarettes, a jaw for holding each of said cigarettes in said position to be wrapped, wrapping means for closing the tip around the cigarette, said wrapping means comprising a pair of wrapping jaws being adapted to move upwardly and together upon the tip at the end of the cigarette, means for imparting a curvilinear' motion to said jaws, a spring seated` oscillating pad for supporting the cigarette upon which the tip is formed, and means for removing the tipped cigarettes.

G. In a cigarette tipping machine,` the combination of a cigarette feeding device to feed the cigarettes singly upon a table, carriers mounted on either side ofA said table for lifting and moving the cigarettes alon the same, hands and-means for raisin an moving said hands in the directionb said cigarettes including means for lowering said hands upon said cigarettes and returning said, hands to their original position with said cigarettes into a. position to be Wra ped, a tipplng mechanism comprising `aWs eing adapted to move upwardly an together against the tip ofthe cigarette for providing the cigarette with a tip, and means for removing the tipped cigarettes.
