CHARLES P. ZO'ERB, OF STOOKTON, CALIFORNIA."
FILING-CASE To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES P. ZOERB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filing- Cases; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in filing cases used for iling papers of all kinds and particularly to bank cases used for filing notes and collateral of all kinds etc., the object of the invention being to produce a case in which the pockets will not fiare when opened but will all open in an upright and vertical position thereby avoiding the liability of papers falling therefrom as is the trouble in flaring cases; also it permits of a direct reading of the index and an easier inspection of the interior of the pockets.
A further object of the invention is to produce a more compact and stronger case than those now commonly in use.
These objects are accomplished by means of a case having collapsible pockets adapted to open and close in a horizontal position only; there being an independent stiftl back and cover for the same connected with but one end of said pockets and adapted to open out in a horizontal manner so as to form a table or platform for said pockets when they are open as described; also such other and further construction and relative arrangement of parts are employed, all as will more fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete case in closed position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same in open position. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary cross sectional View of the pockets and cover.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 designates the pockets of the case which are provided with the usual index letters, numbers, etc., said pockets being adapted to open and collapse in a horizontal line. Formed Specification of Letters Patent.

on said pockets is an independent back and cover comprising a front piece 2 secured to the front of the pockets 1, a bottom member 3 hinged to said member 2 and being independent of said pockets, a rear end member 4 hinged to said member 3 and being independent of said pockets 1, a top member 5 hinged to said member 1 and being independent of said pockets 1 and a flap member 6 hinged to said member 5 and provided with a catch 7 adapted to coact with a lock 8 on the member 2 thereby forming a complete cover or closure for the pockets 1 there being a carrying handle member 9 on the member 5.
When it is desired to open the case the members 3, t and 5 are unfolded so as to lie in a horizontal position thereby forming a table or platform on which the pockets 1 may be slid to open them in horizontal and vertical position as shown in Fig. 2, thereby keeping all papers intact and preventing them from falling out and also permitting a ready and quick review of the index letters, and the easy inspection of the contents of the pockets as shown in Fig. 2.
The pockets 1 are formed with strengthening top members 10 sewed onto the upper edges of the same, and with similar bottom members 11 sewed onto the lower ends thereof. The member 3 is also provided with upwardly projecting side members 12 which protect the lower edges of the members 1 when in closed position.
When the cover is unfolded outward as described, the handle 9 of course folds flatly on the member 5 to permit the horizontal position described.
From the foregoing description, it will be readily seen that the device embodies those certain novel features set forth in the brief description of the same viz. the pockets opening horizontally and having a suitable horizontal support which may be folded to form a cover for the case when not in use.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device still in practice, such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
I-Iaving thus described the invention what is claimed as new and useful and for which Letters Patent are solicited isz- 1. A ling case comprising a plurality of collapsible pocket members, a folding cover for said pockets, comprising four members hinged together, three of said members being g y oo9,734
