Letters Patent No. 90,923, dated June 8, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOSOM-PADS.
The Schedule referred to :in these Letters Patent and making part of the sama To all whom 'it may concern Beit known that I, BnNJAMIN CARTER, oi Middletown, county of MiddleseX,-and State of Connecti- Acut, have invented' an Improved Dress Besoin-Pad;
and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specifications, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of Which-l Fignre I is a perspective view of the spring-frame, with the elastic cord attached.
Figure 2 is a perspective view with padding attached.
Figure 3 is a view as applied to the person.
Figure 4 is a sectional view.
lFigure 5 is a clasp for securing the springs together 'in the centre.
The object of my invention is to make a bosom-pad that shall be adjustable, light, and comfortable; and to by lengthening,
Lble length, and bent to the desired form, which are secured together at the centre by a clasp 'or rivet.
At Yeach end of the springs a a c, an eye, e e, is formed, by bending the wire, or by attaching a clasp with an eye,th`rough which an elastic cord, D, is passed, and secured together at the ends, so as to produce any desired fnlness.
By shortening the cord, the fnlness is increased, the fulness is diminished. Or the same result may be produced by attaching the elastic cord to the ends of the springs and crossing at the centre, the 'frame-work being covered with musliu or other elastic material, and filled with curled hair.
The operation and advantage of my bosom-pad over common pads are its adjustability to particular cuts of dress, which are often numerousuto every wearer, its lightness, and the entire relief `from heat and perspiration occasioned by the common pads.
What I claim, andv desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An adjustable spring supporting-frame for bosompads, consisting of the springs a, eyes e, and elastic cord D, combinedV substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. v
