an'rrirarcrromnnaanve rdanarriwar-cans on OTHER No. 909,108. I
To all whom it may Be itknown that I, JOHKF. OGoNnon, a" bolster and A citizen of the United States, residing in Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illi- 1101s, have invented a new and useful Im- Iprovement in Antiiriotion Center-Bearings 'or'Railway-Cars orother Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
My inventlon relates to anti-friction center bearings for railway cars brother vehicles;
In anti-friction center bearings'for railwaycars of the kind great diificulty an'd'inefiicient o oration-is experienced under the enormous cad of the modernlar e heavy cars, owing tothe fact that the anti-friction rollers do notmateriall reducethe friction between the rims of the center plates under the side thrust of the tram w "en rounding curves? The object- 0f my inven strong and durable constructlon, by means of which the difficulties or objections heretofore experienced may be practically overcome without occasionirig other objections or diflioulties.
Myinvention discovered; and emplo this object or result. 'Fhat is to say, it consists' in upper and lower bearing plates provided each with a plurality of op osing or o positely inclined annular; treads and a urality of separate seriesriction *rollers travelin treads, and interposed etween the upper and lower center plates, so that the axesof one set of rollers are inwardly. and downwardly inclined, while the axes of another set ofvrollers areinwardly and-upwardly inclined, in order that the several sets of rollers consists "in the means I have on said annular 1n connection with such oppositely inclined us cause the rollers annular treads will th side thrust action of themselves to resist the I thetrain in rounding curves upon the center 111 shown and plates.
. My invention further consists in the novel construction of parts and devices and in the novel combinations of parts and. devices heredescribed. I In the accompanying drawingiforming a part of this specification Figurel is an elevation of a device embo Fig. 2 isacentrahvertical ,center plates on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. ig". 3 is'a plan view partly broken away.

In the drawing, A re resents the truck the body olster of a railway car or other vehicle.
B is the lower or truck center plate, C C C anti-friction rollers, D the upper center plate and-FF loose rings interposed between the several seriesfofanti-friction rollers O The lower-center plate B has an annular huh I). and'an annular rim 1), and it is provided preferably with two op sing or o po-' sitely lnclined annular tread b 3 an an intermediate annular tread b for the antifriction rollers to travel upon.
The. upper center plate D has acentral stud or hub d and an annular rim provided with two opposing or oppositely I d, and it 1nclined annulartreads cl (2 and an intere mediate annular-tread d. 7 I TheirollersC C 0 rushed with rounded ends 0 to bear against .theupri ht faces of the separating rings F F, andof t e annular rim 6 and hub b of the he lower center plate B is providedwith necting ring G WI bearing plates B D are assembled. "The G is; preferably thus secured hu d of'the upper center plate B, which is ring G.
As the inner set or series of rollers C have their axes downwardly and inwardly inclined, t eir axes oppositely inclined or inwardly and upwardly inclined, the two opposing sets of rollers C C effectually operate to resist the side thrust action of the train upon the center plates, and thus to prevent any material friction between the center lates due to the side thrust of the train, w 'le at the {same time the inner and outer sets of rollers G C in connection with the intermediate set C effectually operate to prevent material fric- MINER ooMraNr, 0F onr'oaoo,

The combination with u per and lower center plates, having inte tting annular hubs and annular rims and each provided with oppositely inclined annular treads, of two sets of oppositely inclined anti-friction rollers, substantially as specified. j
3. The combination w th u per and lower center plates, having inter tting' annular hubs and annular rims and each provided with oppositely inclined annular treads, of two sets of oppositely inclined anti-friction rollers, and an" intermediate set of antifriction. rollers between said oppositely inclined sets, substantially'as speclfied.
4. The combination with 11 per and lower center plates having interlil ting annular hubs and annular rims, and each provided with oppositely inclined annular treads, of
two sets of oppositely inclined anti-friction rollers, and a separating ringbetween'said sets of rollers, su stanti-ally as specified.
I with oppositely inclined annular treads, of two. sets of oppositely inclined anti-friction rollers, and an intermediate set of" anti- 1 stantially as specified. v i 6. The com ination with upper and lower clined sets, and separating rings between 1 the several sets of anti-friction rollers, sub-,
? friction rollers between said oppositely in 5 i bearing lates, each having a plurality, of
'1' opposite y inclined annular treads of a plu-.
rality of sets of anti-friction rollers between 1 said bearing plates, the rollers of the one set being oppositely inclined from those of the 1 other substantially as s ecified.
