CHARLES J tMES'HARVEY, OF KIDDERMINSTER, ENGLAND.
PORTABLE VACUUM DUST-EXTRACTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
Application filed June 3, 1908. Serial No. 436,611.
T all whom'tfi may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES JAMES HAR- VEY, a subject of the King of Great Britain,
residing at 9 Church street, Kidderminster,
En land, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Vacuum bining one or more ex austers with a dust a collecting contrivance also arranged as to permit of the apparatus being folded into a small compass and .being locked together nect the movable outer portions of the bellows a, whereby the expansion of all compresses the other and vice versa.
The machine may be built with the hinged end of the bellows upwards or at any an lo and the said bellows may be operated y hand, pedal, or motor power.
The outstanding ortion d, of the base or foot board on whic the machine is built is by means of the dust boxb. Stays 0, con-' hinged parallel to, and as near the side of the dust box I), as possible, and will serve as hereinafter appears as ameans of locking the Whole together when folded as. well as a steadying base for pedal or motor driven machines. a
Stays c, are provided hinged at their lower end to the edge of the hinged rojectiing or outstanding portion (1, of t e foot when folded so as to be rendered more convenient for transport from one place or position to another. vention may be fully understood I wi describe same with reference to the accompanying, drawin s and letters and figures of reference mar ed thereon, that isto say Fi ure 1, is an elevation of the device in its fo dad or closed state. Fig. 2, a similar .view showing the device showing the foot board let down in operative osition. Fig. 3, a similar view showing the device showing a compression and expansion of the bellows. Fig. 4, a similar view showing the reverse expansion and compression of the bellows.
Fig. 5, an end elevation. -Fi 6, an end elevation o posite to Fig. 5. ig. 7, a plan view'of t e ap aratus. Fig. 8, a side elevation showing t e apparatus folded or closed 40 for trans ort. Fig. 9, an end elevation showing t e apparatus in its open or operative state.
Similar letters of.reference indicate like parts throughout.
In carrying m inventioninto eflect I use two exhausting ellows a, a, but instead of, as usual, making them doubleeach forming part of the other, I separate them entirely and fix them on opposite sides of the dust box b, as seen more artioul-arly in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8 of the rawings, and connect them i gage with eyes or kno And in order that m in- 1 7 board and formed with hooks f, or of a hooked sha pe at their upper or free ends to enfitments provided on the machine to fix it in the open position. Similar eyes, knobs or fitments h, are rovided upon the side edges of the front be ows a, to which the hooked ends f, of the stays e, are attached when it is desired to keep the machine or a paratus closed. These stays e, may further e made to run in slots rovided to prevent their fa ing about w en not hooked. Or a short chain or other suitable contrivance may be provided to effect the same pur ose.
T e bellows a, a, may be operated by hand by means of the handle 6, which will also serve (see Fig. 8) as a draw bar b which the apparatus, mounted on the w eels k, may e drawn or pro elled from one position to another or the ellows may be oper ated by pedal or motor power. Tubing l, a nozzle m, and other accessories usual for the requirements of pneumatic cleaning are su plied and fitted to the apparatus in the ordinar manner.
at I claim is In a portable vacuum dust extractor, the combination of a dust box, a pair of bellows mounted on opposite sides of the dust box,
s g, or other suitable.
