Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 190's.
' Application filed Kay 7, 1968. Serial No. 481,810.
To all whom it concern:
Annealing-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and im proved annealing box, and more particularly to a cast-metal annealing box consisting of an integral structure.
The prime object of the present invention is to provide a stronger and more durable annealing box than boxes of thisclassnow so generally used; and I accomplish these .ends by providing a new and improved form of roof and strengthening means therefor.
In the accompanying. drawing, which illustrates an application of my invention, Figure l is a perspective view of an annealing box constructed in accordance with my invention; and-Fig. 2 a transverse section thereof.
"As illustrated and as preferred the annealing box comprises an integral cast-metal structure having side-walls 1, formed with horizontal strengthening and stiffening ribs 2, end-walls 3', also formed with horizontal ribs 4; and a roof 5. The box is also pro vided with the usual trunnions 6.
Annealing boxes of the class to which my invention relates 'have heretofore been constructed with the side and end-walls and with a fiat-roof, or with an arched or convex roof. As it is well known, these boxes,- in use, are sub ected. to intense and long continued heat which causes the roof to sag and the side walls to be bulged outwardly,
thusdistorting the box, and, in a comparatively short time, rendering the box useless for annealing purposes.
I am aware that'webs, tie rods and struts have been provided on the interior of the box designed to prolong the life of the same or to prevent. the evil results above mentioned, but these means have not proven entirely satisfactory.
A characteristic and important feature of my invention is the concaved roof 5.: By providing the concaved roof, I am enabled to prevent the upper portions of the sidewalls. from being pushed outwardly or bulged, when the box' is subjected to the' intense heat above mentioned.
In addition to the parts mentioned the box is provided with end-ribs 7 and with intermediate 'ribs or members 8 allformed on the exterior of the roof.
The form of roof illustrated cotiperates with the members 7 and 8" to form pockets or receptacles adapted to. receive sand or gravel when it is desired to cover the roof of the box with such material.
What I claim is:
1. An annealing box having side and endwalls, and. a concaved roof all comprising an integral structure.
2. An annealing box having side and endwalls, a concaved roof, and strengthening members on the exterior of the roof all comprising an integral structure.
3. A cast-metal annealin box consisting of an integral structure having side and endwalls, a concaved roof, and ribs formed on the exterior of the roof.
4. A cast-metal annealing box consisting of an integral structure having side and end walls, a concaved roof, and end and intermediate projections formed on the exterior of the roof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence ,of two witnesses. 1
