ANNEALING-BOX.

Be it known thatiI, FRANK CORDES, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Oakmont, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Annealing Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to annealing boxes and more particularly to thattype formed by casting, the sides, ends and top integral with eaeh other.

They object ot my invention is to strengthen and stiften such type ot annealing box in such a way as to prevent the I bulging or buckling which has been one oi the most serious ditiiculties encountered in the use of these cast-metal boxes.

To these ends my invention comprises the novel features hereinafter set forth and claimed. n

In the drawing Figure 1 is a side View partly broken away of my improved box: Fig. is a bottom view partly in section on the line 2-2 Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is an end view.

The top 2, sides 3 and ends t of my improved box are vcast integral with each other, and the hollow ribs 5 extend ,up the sidesI ot' the box and over the top thereof. Extending longitudinally of the box, around the sides and ends are the ribs (3 and 7, said ribs uniting with the transverse ribs 5 where they intersect. 'lhe diagonal or converging ribs S are arranged between the transverse ribs 5 along the sides as indicated in Fig. l, said ribs uniting with the longitudinal ribs (i and 7 and rising xpreferably at the lower ends ot' the transverse ribs These eonverging ribs unite at. their apex with the upper longitudinal rib (3. In this manner I provide a very strong rigid construction as the converging ribs form with the longitudinal rib 7 .li-shaped braces in the walls of the box.- Ihese diagonal ribs 8 are pret erably extended to form an inverted `Y by the vertical portion 9 which strengthens the upper portion of the box. At the ends of the box the diagonal ribs l0 unite with the longitudinal ribs 6 and 7 and the vertical portion l1 likewise forms a Y as in Fig. l.`

By the employment of the diagonal ribs unit-ing with the longitudinal ribs in the manner described I brace and strengthen the side walls of the box, so that. the bulging or buckling of the box is prevented and its lit'e greatly increased.

Vith-at I claim is:

l. An annealing box formed of an integral casting, having a plurality ot' external longitudinally extending horizontal ribs intermediate the top and bottoni. ot said box7 and eonverging ribs rising from the `bottom ot the box and meeting the upper of said longitudinal ribs at their apex.

2. An 'annealing box ln'med ot' an integral fasting having a, plurality ot external transverse ribs, a.' plurality of external longitudinally ext'eiiding horizontal ribs meeting said transverse ribs, and eonverging ribs ris ing 'from the lower ends ot said transverse ribs and meeting the upper of said longitudinal ribs at their apex.
