UNITED srnrns rairnnr orrion GEORGE F. OONNER, OF PORT HURON, MICHIGAN.
conversa-CHAIN. i
To @ZZ whom 'it may concer/n.:
lje it known that i, betonen F. CONNER, a citizen of the United btates of America, residing at fort liuron, in the county of bt. Clair and btate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful improvements m Conveyer-Uhains, of which tne following 1s a speclncation, reference being had therein to tne accompanying drawings.
'lhis invention relates to sprocket chains and especially to one adapted as a carrier for conveyer chutes.
rl`he invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a view showing the working race of a link of a chain embodying the invention, together with the connecting portion of a companion link, and a part of a sprocket wheel. Eig. 2 is a view in cross-section of a conveyer chute showing the chain in position thereon. hig.
3 is a view in section on line A-A of Fig. l, with a portion of the chute.
ln the drawings, l represents a rounded rear rib secured in spaced parallel relation to a front rib 2 by cross members 3 so disposed as to permit its engagement with the teeth l of a sprocket wneel 5 of suitable pitch, curved end braces 6 carrying the strain to the ,ends of the forward rib, and portions 7 of the rear rib being disposed and arranged to receive hooks 8 of an engaging link.
ll`he forward rib 2 is provided with a thin web 9 projecting downwardly and forwardly at an angle slightly oblique to the perpendicular, and extending from end to end of the web. This web decreases in thickness from the rib to its edge, and furthermore, is sinuous or undulating, presenting a series of corrugations, while its edge l0, which is quite sharp, is curved or sinuous in a plane transverse to the main plane of the web itself. The transverse corrugations are so disposed in relation to the undulations of the edge that the forward corrugations register with the lowest points of the undulations so that each undulation presents an arched or 't crowned tooth which is diiiicult to spring or bend. Posts l1 are formed at each end of the web and extend down a sufficient distance to act as guards, their ends being adapted to ride on the base of a chute bottom l2 to which the chain may be applied.
By this construction, the chain, which Specification o' Letters Patent.

travels as indicated by the arrow, presents a very iirmly braced Spud or rib to engage any object on the chute bottom, the undulations in the web itself preventing bending and the sinuous edge giving the effect of separated teeth which freely grip any article in the chute, while the angle of the web in relation to the chtite bottom causes it4 to enter into any article against which it is pulled and move it along, instead of riding over the article. The end posts prevent the dulling of the edge when the chain is running idle. rlhe link may be of any width necessary for the chute and still run on a single narrow sprocket, as the web effectively prevents any bending of the body or ribs.
Vhat' claim as my invention is 1. A conveyer chain comprising a series of detachably hooked links each consisting of a pair of spaced integrally connected ribs adapted to be centrally engaged by a sprocket wheel, one of the ribs being provided with a sinuous web, extending obliquely down and forward from the body of the link, having an undulatory edge.
9.. A conveyer chain comprising a series of detachably hooked links each consisting of spaced integrally connected ribs adapted to be centrally engaged by a sprocket wheel, one of the ribs being provided with a sintious web extending obliquely down and forward from the body of the link and posts at ezch end of the web projecting beyond its et ge.
3. A conveyer chain comprising a series of detachably hooked links each consisting of a pair of parallel ribs secured at an interval apart by integral cross members, and adapted to be centrally engaged by a sprocket wheel, a sinuous web integrally formed on the front rib, extending downward and forward therefrom at an angle oblique to the body of the link, and provided with a sinuous thin edge, a post at each end of the rib projecting beyond the projecting undulations of the edge, and hooks on the forward rib adapted to detachably engage an adjacent link.
4. A conveyer chain comprising a series of links each provided with a sinuous web eX- tending downwardly therefrom and posts at ech end of the web projecting beyond its e ge.
5. A conveyer chain comprising a series of links each provided with a sinuous web extending obliquely downwardly and forwardly therefrom and having an undulatingY edge.
6. A conveyer chain comprising a series of links each provided with a, sinuous web ex tending obliquely downwardly and forwardly therefrom and posts at each end of the web projecting beyond its edge.
7 A conveyer chain comprising it series of detachably hinged links each provided with 'zt depending spud extending from end to end thereof in :t sinuous line.
8. A conveyer 'chain comprising a series ot' detachably hinged links each provided with tu depending Spud extending from end to end vthereof in a sinnous line, and having an undulating edge.
9. A conveyer chain comprising a series of detachably hooked links each provided with n a sin-neus web extending downwardly therefrom.
10. A conveyer chain comprising a series of detachably hooked links each provided with a sinuous web extending downwardly therefrom and having an undulating edge.
1l. A conveyer chain comprising a series of detachably hinged links each provided with a depending web, Said web having a series of vertical corrugations Vand an undil-V lntory edge whose lower points each register with :L forward convex corru'gation.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses. j
