UNITED STATES Patented December 8, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
ELEVATOR-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,486, dated December 8, 1903.
Application filed June 20, 1903. Serial No. 16 2,428. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL E. FLooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at J oplin, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful improvements in Elevator-Buckets,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to elevator-buckets; and the object of the same is to construct a bucket for conveyor-belts which will not cut the belts on the turns or when they sag.
My invention consists of certain novel features of construction fully described in this specification and more specifically pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in
- which Figure 1 is a perspective of my bucket together with a section of a conveyer-belt. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a trans-' verse section of the same.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
My improved bucket 1 comprises-two diverging sides forming a front 2 and a back 3, and two ends 4., formed of ears 5, turned over at right angles to the sides and secured by rivets 6. The bucket 1 is V-shaped in crosssection, and the back 3 is crimped or struck up to form broad fiat-backed ribs or ridges 7, separated by narrow valleys 8 to accommodate nuts 9, fitted on bolts 10 for securing the bucket to a belt 11. By means of the connarrow valley 8 are held out of engagement with the belt 11 even on sharp turns and keep this edge from cutting a continuous groovein the belt, thereby destroying it, as is usual when the edge 12 is made straight.
I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bucket for conveyors, having broad ridges formed on the back thereof which ridges are separated by narrow valleys, said ridges extending into said bucket, whereby the edge of the back of said bucket is prevented from cutting a continuous groove in said belt on which it is secured, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a conveyer-belt, a 'bucket firmly secured to said belt, the back of said bucket having an undulating edge to prevent a continuous groove being cut in said belt by said edge when the belt becomes slack, substantially as described.
3. Abucket for conveyers having an undulating edge on its back which comes in contact with the belt, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL E. FLOCK. Witnesses:
