Description

.ALGIE Z.
ROBINSON, OF WAGAR, ALABAMA.
CLEAT FOR SAWDUST-CONVEYER CHAINS.
Specction of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1, 1913.
Application le. October 15, 1912. Serial No. 725,898.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ALGIE Z. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'agar, in the county of Washington and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cleats for Sawdust- Conveyer Chains, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cleats and more particularly to conveyer cleats for use in connection with saw mill conveyer chains.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient device of this character which may be conveniently placed upon the links of the conveyer chain or removed therefrom when desired.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figurelis a top plan view. FigzQis arear elevation with the chain in section. Fig. 3 is a front elevation with the chain in section. Fig. e is a perspective view of the locking piece.
In the speciiic embodiment of the invention as illustrated herein the cleat is constructed of a single integral casting comprising a face plate 1 haying extending rearwardly therefrom the top and bottom plates 2 and 3 which are connected together by a web 4L arranged in the center of the device between the ends thereof. The face plate is longitudinally slotted from one end as shown at l and the web is also slotted as shown atl 5, the slot of the web forming a continuation of the slot of the face plate and being of such size as to receive one of the links of the conveyer chain as shown. One side of the link enters the slots 4L and 5 while the opposite side lies upon the top of the top plate 2. In order to lock the link in position I provide a substantially L-shaped keeper 6 whose long leg lies in the slot l and whose short leg lies in the slot 5, the keeper being held in position by means of rivets 7 and 8, the latter of which passes through bosses 9 formed integrally with the cleat and through bosses 10 formed adjacent the end of the long leg of the locking piece 6.
It will be readily understood how the cleat is placed upon the chain andra further description is therefore thought to be unnecessary.
What is claimed as new, is
1. A conveyer cleat comprising parallel top and bottom members, a slotted face member connecting the same, a web connecting said top and bottom members and means carried in the slot for locking a link in the web.
2. A conveyer cleat comprising a slotted face plate, parallel top and bottom members formed integrally therewith, a web connecting the top and bottom members and having a slot communicating with the slot of the face plate, a locking member arranged in the slot of the face plate and means carried by the locking member for preventing lateral movement of the link in the web.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALGIE Z. ROBINSON. Witnesses:
