Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 9, 1908.
Patented Dec. 29, ieos.
Serial No. 437,605.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE H. MANN and ETTA A. MANN, citizens of the United States, residing at St. Johns, in the county of Clinton and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders for the use of seamstresses, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective device comprising a plate having hooks adapted for the reception of a securing tape by which the device is retained upon the person of the wearer, the plate being provided with a cushion for the reception of pins, a plurality of upturned spaced fingers for holding sewing implements, such as scissors, thimble and a spool of cotton, the plate being also provided with an outturned portion upon one of its sides having a head provided with inclined inner edges adapted to serve as means for holding the thread and having sharpened inner edges for severing the threads when desired.
With these objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of elements and their arrangement in operative combination, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in applied position. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a sectional view upon the line 55 of Fig. 2.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates the improved holder. This holder is preferably constructed of a plate of suitable material having a central or body portion 2 and ends 3 of an approximately greater width than the body. The ends 3 are of an approximately circular formation, and one of these ends is provided with a plurality of annular spaced perforations adapted for the reception of a securing cord by which a cushion 4 is retained upon the device. This cushion 4 may be constructed of any desired material and is adapted for the reception of pins, needles or the like. The ends 3 are both provided with integrally formed rearwardly extending hooks 5, and
these hooks are adapted for the reception of a suitable tape 6 by which the device may be held in position around the neck of a user, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The end 3 opposite the end provided with the cushion 4 has its lower portion provided with a forwardly extending approximately right angular finger 7. This finger or extension 7 is carried forward from the body of the plate a suitable distance and is then bent upwardly in a right angular direction. The vertical portion 8 is provided with a reduced tongue 9, while the portions of the body upon opposite sides of the tongue are bent in opposite directions to provide a rest for a spool of cotton 10. This spool 10 has its central opening positioned upon the tongue 9 as clearly illustrated in the figures of the drawings. The end is also provided with a forwardly extending portion 11 arranged upon its edge at an approximately right angle to the extension 7, and this portion 11 is provided with an enlarged head 12 extending from above and below the edges of the extension. The head 12 is provided with a rearwardly extending portion slightly spaced away from the portion 11 and adapted to provide a slot to hold the thread, while the lower portion of the head extends at a slight angle towards the plate 1 and has its inner edge sharpened to provide a cutting face whereby cotton from the spool 10 may be readily severed.
The body portion 1 is provided with a pair of integrally formed loops 13 and 14. The loop 14 is arranged along side the loop 13, and at approximately the center of the plate. The loop 14 is adapted for the reception of scissors or the like, while the loop 13 provides a retaining means of such arupon the opposite end of' the plate, and an 1 In testimony whereof we affix our signaangular portion provided with an enlarged tures in presence of two Witnesses head havin' its u er and lower ortions extending i wardb owards the plaEe at an 5 angle towards the angular projecting portion and having one of the edges of this pro- Witnesses:
jecting portion sharpened substantially as e' CHARLES M. MERRILL,
