YJDRENCHING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented nec. 2e, reos.
Application filed June 30, 1908. Serial No. 441,154.
To all whom 'ttf/nay concern.'
Be it known that l, HARRY RIEsLAND, a l
citizen of the United States, residing at Seiling, in the county of Dewey and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Drenching Device, of which the following is a specification. 1
The invention relates to improvements in drenching devices. y
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of drenching devices, and to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient drenching bottle in the form of a bit, adapted to be secured to the head of a horse or other animal, and capable oready operation from the exterior for discharging the contents of the drenching bottle downv the throat of the animal. Y
A further object of the invention is to provide a drenching device of this character having an extensible discharge tube, adapted to be varied in length to cause it to project a greater or less extent into the neck or throat of the animal treated. A
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustratedin the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto i appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size'and minor details of construction, within the scope oi"` the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing -Figure 1 is a perspective view of a drenching device, constructed in accordance with -this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all thei'igures of the draw- 1 designates a tubular bit bar, provided with spaced projecting arms 2 and 3, having slots 4 and 5 for the recept-ion of a head stall strap 6 for securing the drenching device to the head of an animal. One end of the strap 6 is looped through the opening 4 and is secured to the body of the strap by a rivet, or other suitable fastening device. The other end of the strap is passed through the opening 5.0i the arm 3 and is adjustably united with the body of the strap by a buckle 7, `secured to the strap at an intermediate portion thereof.
l The tubular bit bar extends beyond the arm 3 to provide a terminal extension 8 with l which is connected amedicine receptacle 9. rlhe extension 8 is exteriorly threaded for the reception oi' a screw cap 10, carrying a rotary valve 11 for controlling the liow of medicine from the receptacle 9. The medicine receptacle 9, which is in the form of a tube, is secured at its inner end to the extension 8 and communicates with the interior of the bit tube or bar through the opening 12.y The outer end of the medicine receptacle is threaded for the reception of a screw cap 13, and the said medicine receptacle is provided with a transparent plate or portion 14, and it has graduations 15 at one side of the plate or portion, so that the exact quantity of medicine desired may be poured into the medicine receptacle.
with an opening 16, has its inner end open, and its outer end, which is closed, is connected with an exterior operating head 17 by a neck or stem 18, piercing the screw cap at the center thereof. The central perforation of the screw cap forms a bearin for the neck, and the screw. cap 10 detac ably secures the valve within the tubular bit bar 1. The medicine is supplied to the receptacle 9 when the valve is closed, and the device is then applied to the head of the animal to be treated in the same manner as a bit. rIhe tubular bit bar is provided at its center with a discharge opening, from which extends a discharge tube 19, having an extensible section 20 provided with a substantially L- shaped slot 21 receiving a pin or projection 22. The pin or projection, which is rigidly mounted on the discharge tube 19, is adapted to be engaged with the inner angular flange 23 of the L-shaped slot 21, whereby the ex. tensible tube is locked in its extended position. The discharge tube is extensible to enable it to project a greater or less distance down the neck or throat of the animal to prevent loss of the medicine. As the operating means of the valve is arranged exteriorly of the mouth of the animal and the medicine receptacle is also located on the exterior, the device may be conveniently operated after it is applied to the head of an animal, and the medicine receptacle will operate the animal, so that the medicine will be completely discharged from the device.
The tubular valve 11, which is provided as a handle to assist in elevating the head of Havingl thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is1- 1. A drenching device including' a tubular bit bar, means for connecting` the bit bar with the head of an animal, a discharge tube extending` from the tubular bit bar at a point intermediate of the ends thereof and provided with an extensible section slidable inwardly and outwardly on the discharge tube for varying the length of the same, means for locking the movable section of the discharge tube in its extended position, a medicine receptacle mounted on and communicating with the tubular bitbar, and a valve for controlling the iiow of the contents of the medicine receptacle toy the tubular bit bar.
2. A drenching` device including a tubular bit bar provided with an outlet and hating` projecting arms, one end of the tubular bit bar being' extended beyond the adjacent arm, a medicine receptacle mounted on the extended end of the tubular bit bar, a cap i'itled on the extended end of' the bit bar, a tubular valve operating within the extended end of the bit bar for controlling the llow of medicine to the bit bar, and an exterior operating device having' a stem piercing the said cap and connected with the valve.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as :1'
