Description

T. A. HODGE. TABLE SPREAD HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED APR. 7, 1908.

THOMAS A. HODGE, OF KIRKLIN, INDIANA.
TABLE-SPREAD HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1908.
Application filed April 7, 1908. Serial No. 425,732.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. Honen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kirklin, in the county of Clinton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Spread Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a support for table spreads designed for the purpose of holding the spread above the dishes or other articles on the table.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive supporting device of this kind which can be readily applied to or removed from the table.
In the accompanying drawing, in which a perspective view of the invention is shown, 5 denotes the top of a dining or other table, and 6 is a spread which covers the dishes or other articles thereon. The spread is prevented from coming in contact with the dishes by means of the holder shown.
The holder comprises a frame consisting of a pair of arched bars 7 which are spaced apart and connected at their ends by crossbars 8. The bars 7 are also connected by intermediate bars 9. At the corners of this frame are depending stems 10 which have at their lower ends means engageable with the table-top for holding the frame in place thereon. The stems are formed by twisting the bars 7 and 8 at the corners of the frame together as shown, and the ends of the two wires are then bent laterally in opposite directions as indicated at 11, and at the extremity of said bends an outward bend 12 and a downward bend 13 is made to form a hook which is adapted to engage the edge of the table for the purpose of holding the device in place thereon. Each corner of the device has two holding hooks which are spread apart so that a firm grip on the table is had, and the device is securely held in place thereon. The holder is made of wire and the parts 7, 8 and 9 are crimped which gives the arched bars 7 sufficient spring action. to clamp the hooks securely against the edge of the tabletop, and thus prevents accidental displacement of the holder.
In use, a holder as herein described is placed on each end of the table, and the spread is placed over the holder. The bars 7, 8 and 9 are supported above the table-top by the stems 10 a suflicient distance so that the spread will not come in contact with the dishes or other articles on the table. For large tables a greater number of holders may be employed in order that the spread may not sag. The holder can be easily and cheaply manufactured and can be readily put on or taken off.
I claim:
A holder comprising arched wires, and cross wires connecting the same, the ends of the arched wires and the cross wires being twisted together and bent to form depending stems, and separated and bent laterally in opposite directions to form feet at the lower ends of said stems, and then bent outwardly and downwardly to form spaced hooks at the extremities. V
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS A. HODGE.
Witnesses:
JOHN W. Hones, SAM. HARDING.
