To all whomz't may concern."-
Be it known that I, O'rro KRELL, a sub- 'ect of'the King of Bavaria, residing at 22 liurfiirstendamm, Charlottenburg, near Berlin, Germany, engineer, have invented a certain newand useful Improved Centrifugal Pump or Fan, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that construction of centrifugal pum s or fans in which the fluid enters a central 0 amber from the suction inlet and asses thence to a revolving ring of propelling blades surrounding the said The examination of the action taking place in the suction space or chamber of this class of centrifugal pump or-fan shows that the work to be done is une ually distributed over thepumpblades, as t e total quantity of fluiddrawn in isnot uniformly distributed overthe blades, the greatest amount of work performed b that part thereof which is fart est away om the suction pipe, so that the fluid attains the greatest speed in. the spaces between the blades at that part. In the direction towardsv the 'suttion pipe the speed gradually decreases, and in some cases it sinks to andeven below zero, that is to ward flow of the liquid already situated in the pump channels and the pressure space. This unequal loadin of the pump blades resultsin considerab e disadvantages. Irres ective of thefact that only a partof the b ade surface is usefull employed,- eddies occur' in the liquid tot e detriment of the I In addition, very unequal currents occur channel, or, in the case of exhaust p mp disturbingmovements of the fluid and fur;
These phenomena occur equally in by re 0 with wide pump blades and large suetio'ni space centrally within the blade rmg..
According to the resent invention disadvantages, name y the un uall of the pump blades, andthe' orinatioigf: eddies, are obviated, by gui' the ,1 whether a li uidor a gas-,in-suc a definite deflected into the radial than the parts nearer theaxis.

flow and with a very uniform change of direction, from the axial direction in which they enter the suction space, into the radial direction in which the enter between the pump blades. This gulding of the fluid particlesin the suction space is effected accordby funnel .or trumpet-mouth shaped struc-- tures, asshown on the accompanying drawmg, which shows a cross section of a rotary pump or fan, and wherea is the suction inlet.
to-the casing b c are the rotary pump blades and d d the concentric guide tubes. It is true that this arrangement does not entirely revent'a certain-amount of ine uality' in the oading of the different parts 0 the blades,
but by a suitable choiceof the number of the guide tubes such ine uality can be reduced to an exceedingly sma 1 amount. The guide tubes can either be attached to and rotate with the blade ring, or they may he stationas in which latter case the guide tubes. are
vantageously arranged somewhat eccentrically.
It will be seep/that withthis construction the axially enterin fluid, is, as it were, divided into'concentnc zones, the parts thereof farther away from the pump axis being irections sooner Having thus describedthe nature-of my said invention and the bestmeans' I know of carrying the same, into practical effect-,1 claim:- p
