JOHN HENRY ASTRUCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SMOKERS STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1, 1908.
Application led October 14, 1908. .Serial No. 457,623.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HENRY AsTRUcK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Smokers Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an extensible smokers stand which is adapted to be supported on a common level either by a table or upon the floor. In this way the stand may be arranged within easy reach of the smoker, whilethe table may be used either` asl a support for the stand, or may be cleared.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved smokers stand, showing it adapted to be supported upon the Hoor; Fig. 2 is a side view, showing the stand adapted to be supported upon a table; Fig. 3 a vertical section, partly broken away, through the upper part of'the stand, and Fig. 4 a similar section through the lower part thereof.
The stand is-composed essentially of an ash receiver which may be secured to a base, either directly or by means of a stem interposed between receiver and base. The ash receiver is made in the form of a bowl 10, carrying a number of cigar rests 11, and a match box holder 12. To the bottom of bowl 10 is secured a dished plate 13, through al central opening of which extends downwardly a screw stud 14 constituting the first member of a coupling. Stud 14 is provided with a head 15 received within a chamber 16 formed by plate 13, the head being soldered to said plate.
A tubular rod 17 is provided at one end with a threaded socket 18 constituting the second-member of a coupling and adapted to be engaged by stud 14. At its other end, rod 17 is provided with a threaded stud 19 which is a duplicate of stud 14, excepting that it has a pin 20 extending into the rod.
A base or foot 21 is provided with a threaded socket 22 which is a duplicate of socket 18, and may thus be engaged either by stud 14 or by stud 19. Base 21 is hollow and 1s ballasted by a filling 23 of sandor similar material. The inner wall of the base is provided with a lead lining 24 which stiiens it and adds to its weight.
When the stand is to be supported upon the iioor, (Fig. 1), bowl 10, is by coupling 14, 18, secured to stem 17, and the latter is by coupling 19, 22, secured to base 21. way the height of the stand is such that it projects from the floor to within easy reach of the smoker.
When the stand is to be placed upon a 'table, (Fig. 2), rod 17 is unscrewed and bowl 10 directly secured to base 21 by coupling 14, 22, so that the stand is again readily accessible.
I claim:
1. A smokers stand, comprising ai bowl, a stem, a base, means for coupling the bowl either to the'stem or to the base, and means for coupling the stem to the base, substantially as specified.
2. A smokers stand, comprising a bowl having a first coupling member, a base having` a second coupling member, a stem having a first coupling -member at one end and a second coupling member at the other end, the two first coupling members being duplicates of each other, and the two second coupling In this members being also duplicates of each other,
t JOHN HENRY ASTRUCK.
