Description

' P. SPRANGER'.
OARBURETER. APPLIUATION I'IL ED MAY 23, 190B.

PAUL SPRANGER, OFMARIE NFELDE, NEAR PATENT OFFICE.
BERLIN, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO DAIMLER MOTORENGESELLSCHAFT, OI 'STUTTGA RT, GERMANY. v
CARBUZRETER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, PAUL Srnauenn, managmg dlrector, a sub ect of the Prince of Reuss, altere Lune, and resident of 4 Fabrikstrasse, Marienfelde, near Berlin, German Empire, have invented certain newand useful Im rovements in Carburetors, of which the ollowing is an exact specification.
This invention relates to carburetors of the type in which the principal air, auxiliary air and mixture outlet openings are simultaneously controlled by means of a single regulating organ which is usually coupled to the governor ofthe engine.
The object of the present invention is to provide means for adapting the operation of such ca rl'mreters for use with various kinds of oils and with various temperatures of air.
According tothe present invention the regulating organ wnt'rolled' by the governor rociprorates within a. revolublc sleeve carrying lhe ports of the main air, auxiliary air and mixture whereby adjustment for various oils or various temperatures can be effected by hand through the agency of the revoluble cylinder while the automatic regulation of the action of the carburetor by means of the governor proceeds in the usual way by regulating the position. of the reciprocating controlling valve or other organ.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings which illustrate this invention in one convenient form Figure 1 a partial cross section through a. carburetor according to the present invention, Fig. 2 is. a section on the line vAl3 Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is-a section on the line C-D Fig. 1
In the drawings oil is introduced by a nozzle f while air is introduced into the annular space a. through a pipe (1 The air introduced into the space a passes as shown by the arrows in Fig. 3 into the inner annular space 5 and thereby through the main air ports Z and auxiliary air ports 11 into the central channel of the-reciprocating regulating organ d. The ports Z and i are carried by a sleeve h which surrounds the regulating organ d. The regulating organ or valve 03 is Specification of Letters Patent.

adapted who moved by-a rod 01 through the end wall r of the cylinder or sleeve lb. The. rod 01' is. connected to any suitable form of engine governor. The sleeve h is provided witha handles by which its position may be adjusted by hand. In addition to the ports Z and i the sleeve h is provided with ports h which cooperate with ports 9 in the regulating organ 0!. The ports 2' inthe sleeve h cooperate with the ports 7 in the regulating organ (Z.
The operation of this device is as follows: Assuming the sleeve h to be in the position shown in Fig. 3 then in this case the maximum proportion of auxiliary air is fed in the interior of the regulating member d through the ports 70. If now the handle 8 passing be moved into the required position the ports 2' will not register exactly with the ports It; and the auxiliary air will. in consequence be throttled. Such a throttling however has no effect Whatever on the main air or the mixture outlet ports as the ports h in the sleeve h are considerably larger than the ports 9 and therefore permit of the rotation of the regulating member 0? without in any way affecting the opening of the ports 9. In this way the regulation required for different kinds of oils and for different conditions is simply and efficiently secured.
, I claim: 1
'A- carbureter having in' combination, a casing with air and oil inlets thereto, a hand rotatable sleeve with main air, auxiliary air and mixture outlet ports therein, a reciprocating regulating organ within said sleeve, adapted to control said ports, said reciprocating organ and port carrying sleeve being arranged so that when the port carrying sleeve-is rotated only the auxiliary air ports are influenced.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
7 PAUL SPRANGER, Witnesses:
HENRY HASPER, I WOLDEMAR HAUPT.
