Description

L. M. SIMMGNS.
GAS MIXER. APPLIUATIon FILED HAB. 21, 190s.
A TTORNEYS Patented Nov. 17, 1908 l l uisirnn 'STATES PATENT l@FFII-CIL Lucian ii. siMMoNs, or REYNoLDsVinLE, PENNSYLVNIA.
Specication of Letters Patent. Application led March 27, 1908. Serial No. 423,548.
. GAS-man.
vPatented Nov. 1'7, ie'os.,
To all whom-fit may concern:
' Be it known that I, LUoiAN M. SIM'MoNs, a citizen of the Uni-ted States, and a resident of Reynoldsville,.in the county of Jeerson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Gas-Mixer, ofwhich the following is -a ful1,clear, and exact description. v
This invention relates to certain iinprovements in devices adapted for use in mixing air and gas and delivering the mixture to a burner.
More particularly, the invention relates to` that type of mixer in which there is employed a tube adapted to be connected to aA source of gas at one end and' adapted to be connected to a burner at the opposite end, and having within 'the tube a helical baille to bringout the. thorough andcomplete commingling of the gas and air, and pto produce a uniform mixture thereof, vso that there, will be erfect combustion of the as.
h e special object of the invention is to provide a sin le article-in which the tube and battle are ormed inte ral, and in which the gas and -air enter t rough concentric passages to the end of said baille and are caused to move in a helical pathtoward the connections with the burner.
Reference isto behad to they 'accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, inwhich similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both -the gures, and in which v Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a mechanismconstructed in accordance with my invention, the bafilebeing shown in side elevation, said section being taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line2-2 of Fig. 1.
In the speciciforin of my improved niixer illustrated in the acocmpanying drawings, I
provide a' tube or body 10, having oneend thereof reduced to form a neck 11, which may be interiorly threaded to adapt it for Axconnection to a burner. The opposite end ofthe tube is open and concentric'with the open end is a nozzle 12, threaded for attachnient to. a suitable conduit for supplying the gas. The nozzle ispreterably` formediiite-- gral with the body of the tube and is connected thereto by a plurality of radial arms 13. The inner end of the nozzle is preferably within the outer end of the tube, and the arms connect with the outer end of the nozzle adjacentthe point at which the conduit or supply pipe is attached.
Within the body and` preferably integral therewith, I\pi'ovide a central core 14, coneentric'witli the 4body and connected thereto by two oppositely-disposed helical partitions or baiiles 15. `The two battles terminate in alinement with each otherv adjacent the re-l duced portion, connecting thel body tothe threaded neck 11, and at the opposite end,`
produce a perfect and complet-e combustion at the burner.
All of the parts of the mixer are formed integral, so that itis impossible for a por-l tion thereof to become detached -ordisarranged, or to require adjustment. The device is very siniplein construction and may be readilyf applied to' any suitable burner.
The reduction in size of the neck 11 accominodates for the Vspace taken b y the bailieand core, so that there is substantially a uniform flow through-the mixer.
` Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and `desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A gas iniX',\coniprising/a tubular body having one end lthereof adapted to be at-- tached to a burner and having the opposite end thereof open, gas' deliyery nozzle concentric with said body, .means connecting said nozzle and saidbody at the open end thereof, and a helical balie within said body and terminating in a screw point concentric with said nozzle. 1
' 2. A gas mixer, comprising a tubular body having oneend thereof of reduced diameter and adapted to be attached to a burner and having the opposite end thereof open, a gas delivery nozzle 4concentric with said body at the open end thereof and connected to said nozzle, bale "afi". mg a central core ami b body by 'a plurality arms integral wat-i1 ed the udng said com and he body and negml with both, said -eiznnaing in a screw :gmini: 'concentrlc with said nozze' and admcent thereto.
