LELAND L. AWTREY, OF WAXAHACHIE, TEXAS.
RUNNING-GEAR FOR PLOWS.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, LELAND L. Awinnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at VaXahachie, in the county of Ellis and State ofTeXas, have invented a new and useful RunningGrear for Flows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to ruiming gear attachments for plows and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment in the form of a running gear which is adapted to be easily and readily applied to the beam of a plow or similar implement whereby the implement is converted from one of the walking type into one of the sulky type.
The running gear is mounted upon wheels and means is provided for steering the same. Means is also provided for raising and lowering the implement with relation to the wheels. v
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow equipped with the running gear with parts thereof broken away. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same.
The running gear consists of the bolster 1 which is made up of parallel spaced bars. Said bolster is provided at its ends with the bearings 2 in which are journaled the spindles 3. The spindles 3 may move longitudinally in the bearing 2. The furrow wheels 4 are journaled for rotation at the lower ends of the spindles 3 and are disposed in synclinal relation to each other. The saddle 5 is mounted upon the bolster 1 and may be adjusted longitudinally thereof and when properly adjusted is secured in place by the clamp bolts 6. The beam 7 rests upon the saddle 5 and is adjustably secured thereto by means of the clamp bolts 8. The seat post 9 is bolted or otherwise secured to the beam 7. The arm 10 is attached to the rear portion of the beam 7 and the caster wheel 11 is journaled in the arm 10.
The forwardly disposed arms 12 are attached to the bearings 2 and the forward ends of the levers 13 are fulcrumed to the arms 12. The gear segments 14 are also mounted upon the bearings 2 and the levers Specification of Letters Patent.

13 are provided with spring pawl mechanisms 15 which are adapted to engage the gear segments 14. The arms 1G are fixed to the upper ends of the spindles 3. Each arm 1G is provided at its end which attaches with the spaced portion 17 and the blocks 1S are journaled upon the upper ends of the spindles 3 and lie between the upper surfaces of the arms 1G and the lower surfaces of the spaced portions 17 thereof. The links 19 pivotally connect the levers 13 with the blocks 18. The standard 20 is attached to the beam 7 and is provided at its upper end with a gear segment 21. The leverl 22 is fulcrumed to the standard 20 and the links 23 connect the lever 22 with the arms 16. One of the links 23 connects with the lever upon one side of its fulcrum point, while the other link 23 connects with the lever 22 upon the opposite side of the fulcrum point thereof. The lever 23 is provided with a spring actuated pawl 24 which is adapted to engage the gear segment 21. The links 23 are pivotally connected at their opposite ends to the parts with which they connect.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that by loosening the clamp bolt 6 the bolster l may be shifted laterally under the beam 7 so that the furrow wheels 4 may be properly positioned with relation to 4the beam. This adjustment may be accomplished without disconnecting the links 23. Then the bolster has been properly adjusted7 as above described, it is secured by tightening the bolt 6. When it is desired to adjust the beam 7 vertically with relation to the wheels 4 the levers 13 are operated which move the bearings 2 along the spindles 3. Should it be desired to adjust one of the ends only of the bolster 2 in a vertical direction with relation to the furrow wheels but one of the levers 13 is operated. It is also obvious that by moving the lever 22 that the spindles 3 will be turned axially through the instru mentality of the arms 16 and levers 23, thus the ground wheels 4 are steered but are always disposed in the same relation toward each other.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is ln a device of the kind described, a bolster, sleeves held upon the ends thereof, wheels provided with pin axles extending through said sleeves and adjustable therein for height and angular relation to said bolster, vary such angular relation to the line of means for separately adjusting each of said draft at the Will of the operator.
Wheels with reference to its height, a beam In testimony that I claim the foregoing transversely disposed with relation to the as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signa- 5 bolster and adjustably mounted thereon, a ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
latch lever held upon said beam arms mounted on said axles7 and links conirecting r LELAND L AVTREY' the said arms to said latch lever arranged to Vitnesses:
hold the Wheels from angular variation as J. E. RIDDLE,
10 the beam is adjusted on the bolster, and to lV. F. CANNON.
