' SAFETY-RAZOR.
- no eoaoaz- Applicationfiled September 29, 1906. Serial No. 335,799.
. To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, LYMAN H. Gone, a citizen of the United States, residing in Fitchburg, in the county of Worcester and CommonWea-lth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful lmproveinentin Safety- Razors, of which the following is a specification, accompanied by drawings formlng a part of the same, in wh1ch holding the cutting blade in position, and
' firmly against the cutting tween them.
Fig. (3 is a central sectional view of the head of the razor and one end of the handle.
Similar reference letters and figures refer to similar parts in the dlii erent views.
My present invention refers to thatclass of safety razors comprising a head. for holding a cutting .blade, and mounted on the end of a handle, said head consisting of a pair of clamping plates between which the cutting blade is held in position. I
My present invention has for its object to provide an improved means whereby the cutting blade may be securely clamped into position or released at will by a single operation, and it consists of introducing into the head 'of the razor a clamping cam provided with a lever handle which, by a partial ,r evolution, serves to crowd the clamping plates blade held be Referring to the accompanying drawings,
.1 denotes the handle and 2 the head of the safety razor embodying my invention. The head consists" of a clamping plate 3 .bent at right angles at 4c and 5 and returned upon itself forming a flange 6, and the plate 7 attached by a screw 8 to the end of the handle. Between the plates 3 and 7 is clamped a cutting blade 9. The blade 9 is inserted between the plates 3 and 7, and the plates are drawn together by means of a rotating cam 10 turning freely on the end of the handle, and inserted between the clamping plate 7 and the flange The flange (l is capable of a sliding mo ant on the handle, and is provided with a Jed rib 11, forming a cam surface coiiperamig with a corres muding camsur- Specification of Letters Patent.
Figures 1 and 2- represent side and rear- Patented Nov. 17, 1908.
face 12 on the under side of the cam 10. The cam 10 is provided with a lever handle 13, having a depending lug 14, which enables the cam to be rotated by the pressure of'the thumb or fingeragainst the lug. l Vhen the raised rib 1-1 on the flange G is brought to correspond with the recessed cam surface 12 on the cam 10 the cutting blade 9 will be released, and by turning the cam into position shown in Figs. 3 and 4: the opposing cam surface crowds the flange 6 downward and draws its connected clamping blade 3 firmly against the upper surface of the cutting blade 9. In its clamped position the lever 18 and lug 14: are pushed back against the rear side of the head entirely out of the way of the cutting edge of the blade 9, and not interfering with the free use of therazor.
I claim, 7
1. In a safety razor, the -combination with a handle and a clamping plate attached to the end of said handle, of a second clamping plate and a clamping cam arranged to lock said plates in contact with. a razor blade between them.
.2. In a safety razor, thecombination with a handle and a clamping plate attached to one end of said handle, of a second movable clamping plate bent around one edge of said attached clamping plate, and having a flange parallel to said movable clamping plate, and a cam interposed between said flange and said attached clamping plate for drawing said clamping plates together.
3. In a safety razor, the combination of a handle, a clamping plate attached to the end of said handle, a movable clamping plate on i one side of said attached clamping plate and having a flange integral therewith and extending across the opposite side of said attached clamping plate, a cam surface on said fiange,-and a camrotatable about the handle and cooperating with said cam surface.
4. Ina safety razor, the combination of a handle, a clamping plate attached to said handle, a movable parallel clamping plate, and a cam rotatable about the axis of the handle, whereby said clamping plates are drawn together.
In a safety razor, the combination of a handle, a clamping plate attached to said handle a movable clam nn )late oarallel 7 c ,t with one side of said attached clrnnpmg plate, a cam rotatable around said. handlc'on cam surface cooperating with said rotatable cam,
6. In a safety razor, the combination with a handle, a clamping plate attached to said handle, a movable clamping plate on one side of said attached clamping plate, a cam 10 rotatable about said handle on the opposite" side-0f said attached clamping plate, an & op
eratively connected with said movable clamping plate.
