A. STANGE.
TOY FOR CHILDREN.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 2, 1907.
.QQQ W'WL D Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
UNITED smarts PATENT @FFIGE.
ALFRED STANGE, OF OOSWIG, GERMANY.
TOY FOR CLDREN.
No. 902,771. Specification of To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED STANGE, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of No. 45 Dresdenerstrasse, Coswig, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Toy for Children, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention relates to a toy for children and consists of a gun, its novelty being, that series of shots in form of peas or the like, can be discharged by turning a crank, whereby a mechanism loads the gun automatically.
The accompanying drawing shows a form of construction of the invention.
Figure 1 gives a side-view of the toy connected with an ammunition box. Fig. 2 is a section of the mechanism, Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section through the same. Fig. t is a cross section of the gun closed by the piece g. Fig. 5 is a cross section of the gun, the piece g pulled. out. Fig. 6 is a side viewof the piece 9.
The mechanism of the gun consists of the gun barrel a having a funnel-pass b which serves as a magazine for the loading. Underneath the funnel a short tube 0 for feeding the projectiles to the gun is arranged.
9 In the interior of the barrel a piston d is arpiece g.
ranged, which is connected with a drawingrod 6 to which a slide f is fastened.
On the upper side of the barrel a slit is arranged near the tube 0 which serves for the reception of the tappet of the catchpiece 9, which possesses a weak spring 71., which causes the automatic closing of the In the interior of the casing p, situated upon the barrel, springs 2' are arranged which are connected with the rod 6 by a pin is. A crank m is supported in said casing. The drawing rod e is guided. in a slit in said casing. Above the slit the catch 0 is movably arranged.
The manner of operating of the device is as follows: The parts occupying the position shown in Fig. 2, if the magazine I) is filled with peas or the like, one of the balls enters the tube 0 and falls on the piston (Z. By turning the crank m to the rear the curved position of said crank within the casing p enters the forward notch of the rod 6, and the latter carrying the plunger (Z is forced to the rear against the Letters Patent. action of the springs 71 until the slide bar 0 enters the notch e of the said rod. In this position the gun is cooked. During the travel of the plunger d to the rear the proj ectile resting thereon falls into the barrel a, and the slide f carried by the rod 6 closes the tube 0, thereby preventing further balls entering the said tube 0. The tappet piece 9 is normally. held by the slide f in the posi tion shown in Fig. 2 with the weak spring 12, tensioned. During the cooking action, when said slide f is moved to the rear to close the slot in tube 0, the tappet piece 9 acting under the influence of its spring A falls into the barrel, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, thus preventing any tendency of the projectile to roll out. Then the parts are in the cooked position, as described, a further turn of the crank m to the rear causes it to leave the forward notch of the bar 6 and engage with the slide bar 0, raising the latter from engagement in the notch 6 The bar 6 carrying the plunger cl and slide f now act in g under the influence of the tensioned spring 70, moves forward. The slide f contacts with the upper part of the tappet piece 9 and raises it from the blocking position shown in Fig. 4 to that illustrated in Figs. 2 and 5. The plunger (Z strikes the projectile and the latter is discharged.
I claim: In a toy for children the combination of a gun having a barrel provided with a slit, a casing 011 this gun, a funnel in this casing, a short tube situated underneath said funnel, a piston in the said barrel, a drawingrod having notches and connected with the said piston, a slide attached to the said rod, a catch-piece having a tappet adapted to enter into the above-mentioned slit of the barrel, a spring attached to the said catchpiece, springs situated in "the said casing and fastened to the above-mentioned drawing rod, a crank supported in the said casing adapted to move the rod, a turnable bar in the casing adapted to enter into one of the said notches for preventing reloading the gun before a discharge, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
