Be it known that 'I, JUDSOX U. BENNETT, a

citizen of'the United States, residing at Brookton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Chairs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in folding chairs, and the object of the invention is to provide an auxiliary chair especially adapted for use in connection with the ordinary .chair employed in barbers shops, whereby a small seat adapted for childrens use may be positioned upon the ordinary chair, and when not in use folded within a small compass and stored until again needed. To these ends the invention resides in the novel construction of folding chairs herein after fully described and' claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folding chair constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing the same in applied position upon a barbers chair. Fig. '2 is a side elevation showing the chair folded. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section of the improved chair. perspective view of the seat member of my device.

In the drawings the numeral 1 designates a c-hair of the ordinary construct-ion commonlyemployed for barbers use, having a base and revoluble seat, and the usual back and arms. With the seats constructed in. the ordinary manner the back of the chair is of such a height as to prevent a barber having free access to the head of the child while cutting its hair. The back of the-ordinary chair employed in barbers shops is a permanent fixture to the chair, and a barber seek-- ing to trim or cut the hair of child while seated upon the ordinary chair 1s seriously inconvenienced by the back of the chair being of a greater height than the head of the 1 child. To overcome these difficulties it is necessary to provide a device which will bring the child"s head to a suiiiciently high position to enable the barber to operate without the incomenicnce or being annoyed by bending over the top of the ordinary barbers chair while cutting or trimming the hair of the child, and it is in view of overcoming these diliiculties that I have provided a simple, cheap and efiicient, as well as an attractive folding chair which may readily be positioned upon the arms of the ordinary barbers chair and which may be quickly and Fig. i is a 'arms 5.

The seat 3 is provided with a rear rail 12 corresponding with the front rail 12, and likewise projecting beyond the sides of the seat 3, thus allowing the chair to be posi tioned upon the arms of the ordinary barl hers chairs of various sizes, and the rear rail 12 1S hmgedly secured to the back of the chair by the hinges 13.
