Be it known that I, AUGST HoLsTE, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Bielefeld, Prussia, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments for Underwear, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to garments for under-wear.

The underclothing of the known type, which entirely envelope the trunk or Lipper part of the body, has certain disadvantages, more particularly that of warming some parts of the body where heat is neither agreeable nor healthy. The parts which should be kept warm are the abdomen and the back.

It has been previously proposed in surgical l and orthopaedic appliances and as a substitute for corsets to provide an abdominal belt portion or covering detachably connected as by straps with a back or bust support or covering, but the object of the present invention is entirely different and relates essentially to an under garment or garments for general wear which will be hereinafter described. These garments are made separate from each other, so that they can be separately used, that is to say, one can ybe worn in the absence of the other, or one can be worn against the skin, for example on the abdomen, and the other can be simultaneously worn over another garment. This gives to the user greater control as to the amount of clothing which can be worn at any given time. The connection between the garments is made by means of straps in the manner of Suspenders. The garments can be easily disconnected from each other, for the already mentioned purpose of enabling them to he separately worn. Separate belts or straps are not required to secure smooth fitting of the garments, a smooth fit being obtained by the adjustability of the suspenderstraps. The garments do not warm portions of the body where warmth is not required, and they do not cause pressure on the abdominal regions, where ordinary underclothing is usually tight.

An embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing, Figure l being a front view showing the abdomen covering alone suspended from the wearers shoulders; Fig. 2 is a rear view of ,Fig l; Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 2

The straps a and are secured together by a band e passing round the back of the neck as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Other buttons are provided on the waistband b1 to adjust the garment as to width by connecting the straps a and L to different buttons.

The covering' can be fastened at the rear by strings or the like .e as shown in Fig. 2 or the rear ends y thereof may overlap as shown in Fig. 3 and be buttoned together as at y1. In this latter form, sufiicient buttons and button holes are provided to allow for adjustment as to width, and it is also desirable to provide an additional back strap 71.1 secured at vopposite ends to the neck strap c and to one of the rear ends y of the covering and provided with a row of button holes h2 for use in adjustably suspending the garment according to the adjustment of the main straps 7L as previously explained.

Referring to Figs. 4 and 5 these show in front and rear view the back covering Z which is a simple garment having arm-holes z' and somewhat in the form of an ordinary waist-coat but open at the front.

Figs. 6 and 7 show both garments applied to the body the back covering (l being below and the abdomen covering outermost, said back covering being provided with suitably disposed buttons Z1 for attachment with appropriate button holes cl3 b3, in the straps a and L and band e of the abdomen covering.

The bands a 71. and e enable the abdomen 'covering b of the garment to be worn without any pressure whatever on the abdominal regions, no additional means of attachment being required to hold the garment smoothly against the body. To insure smooth fitting in all cases, the length and width of the garment can be regulated, as before described. Smooth fitting is secured solely by means of the adjustability of the connections.

The garments and straps or bands can be made of any suitable material.

That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the Unitedv States is l. An under garment for imparting warmth to certain parts of the body, comprising the combination with a frontal member adapted to cover the abdomen only without pressure, waist-bands on said frontal member and shoulder suspension straps detachably and adjustably secured to said waist-bands, of a back covering member having arm holes, and means for detachable Connection of said back covering member with the suspension straps of the frontal Wear independently of eaoh other, substantially as set forth.

2. An under garment for imparting warmth to certain parts of the body, comprising the combination of a frontal member adapted to cover the abdomen only without pressure, waist-bands on said frontal member, shoulder suspension straps in connection with said waist-bands, a back covering member having arm-holes and means for detachably and adjustably connecting said back covering member with the shoulder straps of the frontal member whereby the oombined garment may be regulated as to height and width, said two members being capable of wear independently of eaeh other, substantially as set forth.
