Letters Patent No. 90,202, dated May 18, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAY-KNIVES.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent /nd' making part of the name.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW N. STALEY, of Waynesborough, inthe county of Fran klin, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hay-Knives; and I do hereby declare that the following is a, full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the Aecompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form :t part of this specificetion, in which- Figure 1 is aperspective of my knife.
The nature of this invention consists in constructing the blade or knife in diamond-shape, for the purpose of obtaining more cutting-space, and rendering it more easily to be thrust into the hay-stack or bale.
'10 enable others skilled in the art to which my invention eppertains, to make and use the sinne, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing- A Vrepresents the handle, the lower end of which terminates with the diamond-shaped blade, or cutter B, and its upper end with the loop, or bail C.
At the point b t-hehandle is bent up.
c is a staple, attached to the upper part of the handle, between the bend band the knife B. This staple is intended to place the foot upon, in order to shove the knife into the hay-stack.

As zt new article of nmnufncture, the within-described hzty-knife, the blade of which being formed diamond-shape, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
