Description

J. L. JUDGE. Steam Heafer.
Patented May 18, 1869.
dntm Staten @anni @Mina JAMES L. JUDGE, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
Letters Patent No. 90,176, dated Mel/y 18, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-HEATERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the vsame.
' formingpart ot' this specification, in which- Figure l is a vertical perspective view Figure 2, a vertical sectional view Figure 3, a cross-sectional view in the line x x, fig. 2; and
Fi ure 4, a Viewv ofthe base of my invention.
Si ilar letters of referencein each of the iigures indicate corresponding parts.
The nature of my invention is to produce a steamheater which will be economical and `easy to take care of.
A is the outside shell.
B, the base.
C, the fire-door.
I), door in the top of the smoke-stack.
E, a central water-circulator.
F F, arms by which circulator E is connected to the con-ugations in the ire-box.
G, fire-draught fines, which pass down into the base of the fire-box, from the top of the-box.
H, lues which take the draught from the fines G,
`and conduct it to the smoke-stack, up through the water and steam.
I, steam-chamber above the fire-box. K, corrngations in the fire-box. i
L, door through which to clear the ashes from the base.
M, a door in the back side ofthe box, which, when opened, lets the cold air intothe tubes, and cools the Water when it gets too hot.
N, another door for cleaning out ashes.
O, the ashpan.
. P, the smoke-stack.
Operation.
Fill the steamer with water about a foot above the fire-box door. This will be done through a pipe which passes into the bottom of the steamer, which is not shown in the drawings; nor, either, is the passage for the escape of steam shown, as that is not necessary. Then build a fire in the fire-box. The smoke will pass down through flues G, and up through ues H, and out through the smoke-stack. (There is a larger number of both dues G and H in a heater in practical operation than those in the drawings.) The VWater will be heated, steam will be generated rapidly and passv off', and warm the house. f
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The steam-heater,constructed with shell A, circulator E and F, lues G and H, and corrugations K, al1 arranged substantially as described.
2. Base B, with doors L, MLN, and O, and holes t'o correspond with the fines G and H, arranged substantially as described.
3. Oirculator E and F, iiues G and H, corrugations K, steam-chamber I, with shell A, constructed and arranged substantially as described. Q
