IMPROVEMENT 1N SEWING PAcKAGns. 'Y Y vv'The lSchedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.Y
x To all whomfit may concern: f one end receiving the needle-packet b, and the other specilication.
Be it known that we, MARCUS BROWN WEs'rnnAn of Manchester, in the countypf Lancaster, England,
and CHARLES BAR'rLnn'r JaMnsof Redditcmuinthe county of Worcester, England, have invented a new 4and improved TwinefWinder; and We do. hereby declare that the following is a full, ,clear, and' exact dei scription thereof, which will enable others skilledin the `art to'makejand use the same, reference being-had to the accompanying drawings, forming'partfof this This invention lrelates to a new manner of preparing the ordinary flat twinef-winders, to make them at once holders for thread, needles, pins,buttons, or other arl ticles'; and i The invention consists `'nltransforming the ordinary fiat winders upon which sewing orembroidering-thread is usually' wound into4 cases, sheaths, or' receptacles, open at one or both` ends, to contain a packet `or pack-` ets of needles, a few pins, or safety-pins, or a strip or strips of buttons, or hooks and eyes, or a combination ,l of any or all of thesearticles with the sewing-material.
The winder can be made of paper, card-board,- metal,
or other suitable material.
The `invention 'also relates to the combination of -buttons and needles without,sewing-material, -andfto l the use of ordinary fiat winderswithout cases or sheaths for needles, forthe purpose of combining buttons, hooks 3 and eyes, or pins with, the `sewing-material. We will now describe our invention more Yclearly in detail,4 with reference tothe drawings hereuuto'at tached, in whichl v Q y Figure l represents, in front and end elevations, a Winder for sewing or embroidering-material formed into a flat case`or sheath,4 and `open at one end, a, for the reception of a packet .oi needles, l), which can bei V slid iuand out of such i case or sheath when required' for use. p l t `Figure 2 represents a similarwinder, open at both ends, so as to receive two packets ofneedles, b l).
The-'combination of plus withneedles and the sewing-material is shown in front and end elevations at l Figure 3, the pins, c, in this case being-'stuck iuto the solid end ofthe Winder, though they may be insert-ed in any other suitable portion of the saine, if. preferred. Figure4 exhibitsa Winder, open at both ends, the
receiving a strip of buttons, like that shown in Figure paper of pins.`
. 'Allof these articles `combined maybe used together.
with the sewing-material d,.wound upon the Winder,
said articles being slid or fitted4 into the ends ofthe n Winder in suitable quantities. i
Oi' acombination of all the articles desoribedniay` be formed, as shown at Figure 6, the needle-packet or packetsb being inserted at one end, the pins c at the other, and the buttons or hooks and eyes, or both, being sewn upon `the outside of the Winder in .suitable numeyes being sewn-iu like manner as the buttons, before described, upon the caseor Winder.
a Figure 9 represents an ordiharyflat Winder, without a sheath or case, and for the purpose of combining,
as shown, sewing-n1aterial and buttons, or hooks; and
eyes, or pins therewith,- or all in combination;
. f Our improved'winders, or cases may be made of paper, card-board, thin metal, or other suitable `material, as maybe fonndmost convenient to suit the ret quireme'nts of -any particular case.
new, and desire to` secure by Letters tons,hooks'and eyes, and pins, or either two or more of these articles, substantially as herein shown and described.
MARCUS BRUWN WES'ILHEAD. l CHARLES BARTLEET'JAMES.
