This inrention relates to receptacles for the storage or conveyance of various articles and especially receptacles that are peculiarly adapted for the safekeeping of valuables such Y as cash, jewelry, or -thelike Among the objects of the invention is to provide a container or receptacle, preferably in the nature of a bag, having a mouth adapted to be closed tightly and locked to prevent tampering with the contents, the bag or receptacle being especially and peculiarly adapted for the making of bank deposits after usual bank hours, and in harmony with the modern practiceof making deposits by means of specially designed or prepared doors or windows in banking or analogous institutions, and whereby the customers of a bank may enjoy the banking facilities with safety at any time during the day or night. v

Another obj ectof the invention is to provide a receptacle in the nature of a bag with an improved locking meansV which is permanently associated with the bag and `is movable relative thereto forengaging through portions of the bag for locking the same.

More specifically, it is an .obj ectvof the invention to provide an improved device cluding a'padlock and a slide fastener, with a connection between the slide and the shackle ofthe padlock such that the connection is alined with the slide in the locked position. and the shackle being at right angles thereto, and the 'connection affording lateral swinging movement and relative longitudinal sliding movement of the shackle to facilitate the lock ing engagement.

Another object ofthe invention is to provide a flexible bag having associated means including a slide fastener, a connecting e means of relatively short length and prefer-- ably semi rigid character, so connected at one end to the slid-e and at its other end slidably to the shackle of a padlock withthe shackle engageable in a hole of the bag to prevent opening of the slide fastener as to afford a compact rigid engagement despite the flexibility of the bag.

@ther objects and advantages of the invention will become 'apparent as the specification proceeds.

With'the aforesaidy objects in view,` the invention consists in the novel combinations and arrangements offparts hereinafter `described in ,their preferred embodimentaY 4pointed .out 1n the s ubjoined claims, and il,- lustrated on the annexed drawing, wherein like parts are designated bythe same refer-l ence characters throughout theseveral views;

It willfbe obvious to those skilled in the art to whichthis invention appertains, that the same may be incorporated in several dif,- ferent constructions. The accompanying drawi ng,'therefore, 'is submitted merely as showingthe preferred exemplification of the invention. f`

Referring now` more specifically .to the drawing I show a receptacle in the nature of any bag l0 of asuitable size, design, construction, ormaterial, but shown `as having a mouth 11 adapted to be opened for the full `width of the bagy and also adapted to be locked closed as will soon appear. 'In its preferred form the Ibag is lmade of Vsuitable strong tough fabric material and of two'parts substantially similar to each other and united along a seam l2 andwith the seam suitably the particular manner of formation of the mouth or the binding thereof, the style of the receptacle that is approved by the trade and has been found most suitable is one in which the edges of the mouth or lips 14 are bound severally by any suitable'type of slide.l

Each strip 15 of thefastener may be attached firmly and strongly as by, a braidor tape 17 to the lip portion of the bag, suitable double rows of stitches 18 being employed.-

Adjacent to onek end of the mouth are fastening Vportions which may include registering openings 19 being reenforcedr by groin#` mets 20. Engageable through said openings is any suitable locking device 21, which may be in the nature of a padlock, thesame being connected with the slide 16 in proximity to the latter, and for af limited degree of movement relative thereto, as by swinging for en-V gaging in said openings, and for constituting the locking device a vhandle for opening and closing the slide fastener. y

More particularly, a connecting means such as 22Ymay be provided which is preferably fleXible and operative between the slider16 andthe shackle 23 of the padlock for apurpose hereinafter set forth. @ne form of the connecting means may includea loop member or bail 24 which passes loosely through a hole 25 in a flange 26 of the slide. The bail may have oppositely bent' ends 27 on which may be pivotally mountedia connector or strap 28,

as by spaced hub. portions29. [The strap 28 may be made of sheet metal benty atits oppositev ends to form the hub portions 29 at one end, there being a central cut out between said hubportions, and afsleeve portion 3() at the opposite end of the strap forengaging around and snugly slidably receiving the shackle leg 31 that is permanently connected to the body of the padlock. Acentral rivet 32 may be Y used for securing together the'parts *of the strap 28.

As thus constructed, the strap 28and bail 24 may be in alinement with the'slide 16, and also laterallyswingably related thereto. The

- strap and bail extend, however, at right angles to the leg 81 of the shackle. The latter may be rotatable with respect tothe padlock body in the well known manner. The sleeve 30 is so arranged that the shackle cannot be dis` engaged therefrom, due to the curve in the shackle. But the leg 31 is slidable through and alongthe sleeve 30.V

In operation, for locking the mouth of the bag the padlock is seized in the hand of the operator and pulled so as to cause'the slide to close the slide fastener. Then the padlock shackle is passed through said holes, the leg 31'sliding in the sleeve 30; at the same time the alined relation of parts 16, 24 and 28 is restored. Finally, the padlock body -is rotated into engagement with the shackle and `locked therewith.V When thus locked, the

padlock may form a laterally projecting handle for the bag, and is conveniently accessible for the insertion of a key at the base thereof.

In a flexible bag having a mouth provided with a slide fastenerl for closin`0` the mouth, the combination of a padlock hzving a shackle provided with closed leg and an open leg, the bag having a hole in the flexible body thereof in proximity to the slide of the slide fastener in the closed position thereof, the open leg of the shackle kbeing engageable through said opening transversely of the slide fastener, and means permanently connecting the slide with theclosed leg externally of the bag to prevent the slide fastener from being opened, and said padlock constituting a handle for the slide for opening the said fastener.
