' UmTED-STATES'rirnmiiityiliw ALFRED JOHN BRNES, on LONDON, ENGLAND.
I nranarus ron naoncmznie aan FxL'rERINc PETROL SPIRIT.
.Odell may concern: y y M Be it known that I, ALFRED JOHN BARNES, subject of the King of Great Britian, residing London, England, have invented Ap aratus for Deodorizlng and Filtering PetrolP Spirit. f,This-inventionfhasfor its object the -conf struction andY adaptationA of a container or vessel fitted tothe-spirit feeding mechanism i, loof amotor Omnibus, `motor car or the like, l and through which the petrol or other spirit #from the-tank isv caused to pass.
. In carrying the invention into effect I provide a metal case or container, preferably of I'jeylindrical shape, and. fit therein an inner andan outer cylinder capable of removal Y therefrom'. These two cylinders are prov vided with small perforations in their sides, and in the annular space between them is ipacked or., laced a special preparation adapted for ltering the petroleum or other slpirit, and deodorizing the fumes therefrom. o fprevent the said preparation passing 'f'Jthrough'the perforations in the two cylinders, the, inner one is lined outside, and the youter one inside,iwith fine wire or other .gauze permitting of the passage of the spirit only.A The case or container 1s fitted with a l cover packed and bolted tightl thereto, and forming a. liquid tight joint wit in a cylinder, and the top of this cover is formed with a l coupling joint for connectingup the inlet l pipe' fromlthetank to the interior of the n- 1 ner cylinder. 1:5 inthe accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a. vertica section of' the container or case and internal cylinders, and Fig. 2 is a i horizontal fsection thereof.
a is the said container or case and b is the h cover fitted tightly thereto by the bolt c and i packing ring lhe cover is formed with 'a Screw cdupling joint or inlet c, for connecting the pipe from the tank feeding thc petrol to the engines.
fis the outer cv inder having perforations I f l in its sides and closed at g, near the'bottom of the container, while its upper end fits tightly within a rim or recess h formed onthe cover;
' i is the inner cylinder having perforations 'il and resting ina recess y' at the bottom of the container, while its upper end fits tightly around a rim lc, on the cover.
l is the outlet from the container for leading thepetrol by a pipe connected thereto to the carbureter or to the engines.

packed or placed m the annular space n be- A' and o is the wire ganze fitted to the outside-of the latter, being 'thefgauze sin'iilarly fitted to the insi( e j of the former fcrpreventing in'eachcase the passage of the material through theperfoj rations in the cylinders.
The petrol or othcnspirit fed from the tan ks passes through the inlet-e, into the inner -cyllnder f1., from p'. ich itescapes through the mrc the space 'n and thor perforations 'if oughl y n'nxes with the preparation m therein. From the space. n, tic petrol then passes through the |mrforationsf, into the outer, case or container a., which it finally leaves by the outlet Lon its way to the' carburetor or engine. The spirit then passes through the the essence ofthe said preparation and becomes thoroughly dcodorizcd thereby, destroying the fumes from the sv those due to any excess in the ubrieaticn of the engines. Y
What I elainnand desire to secure by Let ters Patent of the United States is:` y
1. In' a iilteringI and Adeodorizing ap )aratus, a container having a single central y located recess in the bottom and a lateral let near the top., mreniovable cover having a central inlet nozzle upon Aits outer aceand two concentrically,located rims on its inner face, two internal perforated cylinders of unequal length within the container, the inner es up or incorporates with it` irit and Valso f and longer cylinder resting within the botg tom recess and extending from there, up to the inner face of the cover where it surro unds the smaller of the concentric rims thereon, while the outer perforated cylinder lits within the larger ofthcconcentric rims and, being shorter ,than the other above the levelI of the tainer, annnulus sect ed to the ,bottom of said outereylinder and surrounding the inner cylinder., whereby-,a free space'is )'rovided both at thel bottom. and at the side o the container, whereby said cylinders moved from said container, and whereby said cylinders may be separated, and a filterin and deodorizing' material between said cy indcrs. y
2. In a filtering and deodorizing a )paratus, a vertically disposed cylindrical container, a -centrally adapted to catch sediment formed by the anc'ylinder, terminates bottom of the' con-' )cked circular recess cop.
rBiasi AVAILABLE coPY nular lip-standing rib, said container having a lateral outlet at the top of its side, a removable cover having a central inlet nozzle upon its outerd'ace and two concentric lock rinis on itsinner face, two internal concent-ric perforated cylinders of unequal length of, the outer of said internal cylinders fittingwitliin the outer of said concentric rims and tei'ininatnig at its lower end above the level ofthe top of' said np-standingrib, said iovver end being provided withan inwardly projeeting iiange, an annulus secured ,nearl the bottom of' said inner cylinder andspaced froin said uli-standing ri femovable means to fasten said flange to said ainiulus whereby Vthe free spacefor the collection of sediment is provided between thebottoni of said con# tanier and the bottom of said inner cylinderv arid a ilterinfy and deodorizing material between said cy inders. In testimony whereof IJhave signed my naine to this specific-ation' in the two subscribing witnesses.
