To all whom 'it may concern;

Be it known that we, SIMON HAUsER, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, borough of Queens, State of New York, and EDWARD S. SHEPHERD, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, borough of Brooklyn, same State, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor- Strops, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved razor-strop which is intended for stropping the blades ofsafety and other razors and which can be extended for use and collapsed after use so as to be vcarried more conveniently in a small case, together with the holder of the safety-razor and its blades, and for this purpose the invention consists of a razor-strop provided with a tubular centerbar formed. of telescoping tubes, means for locking the tubes when they are extended, a stationary plate on the inner tube, an adjustable plate on the outer tube, said plate being provided with handles for holding the strop and a leather-strop attached to the stationary plate and extending around the adjustable plate.

The invention consists further of certain details of construction and combinations of parts which will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of our improved razor-strop showing the same extended for use, .Fig 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side-view of the razor-strop showing the same in collapsed position, so as to take up a smaller space.

' Referring to the drawings, a a1 represent a tubular center-bar which is composed of an inner tube a and outer tube al, the inner tube telesco ing into the outer tube. To the inner enc of the inner tube a is applied a pivoted and spring-actuated catch c which projects through a slot of the inner tube in the nature of the well-known umbrella-catches and which is ressed outwardly by its spring when the tubes of the center-bar are extended to their full length. To the outer end of the inner tube is attached a fixed oblong plate d, and to the outer end of the outer tube a1 is attached an adjustable plate d1 which isprovided at its ends with bent-up handles d2 that are preferably made integral with the plate d1 so as to serve for holding the razor-strop by the thumb and foreiinger of the left hand.

The outer end of the Outer tube al is provided With an exterior screw-thread d3 and passed through an opening o in the plate d1, the latter being adjusted thereon by means of a screwnut d4 which is turned on the threaded end of the tube so as to permit thereby the adjustment of the plate d1 on the tube. A leather-strop e is passed around the plates d, d1, its ends being attached by prongs or rivets d5 to the plate d and passed around the adjustable plate d1, the strop being provided with an opening o1 at that end for permitting the passage of the exteriorlythreaded end d3 of the outer tube a1 through the same. The adjustment of the plate d1 by means of the screw-nut d3 permits the proper tension to be given to the strop c when the same is in extended position for use. From time to time the strop may be stretched by the adjustment of the plate d1 so as to take up the slack in the same.

' When the blades have been sharpened on the strop, the latter is placed into collapsed position so as to take up less room in the case in which the safety-razor and its blades are stored, by pressing the catch into the inner tube sufliciently that the inner tube can slide or telescope into the outer tube, whereby the length size of the razor-strop is diminished to nearly one-half its former size, the strop being then folded alongside of the adjustable handle-plate, as shown in Fi 3, in which position it can be convenient y placed in the case in which the safety-razor and its accessories are carried.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A razor-strop comprising a tubular oenter-bar formed of telescoping inner and outer tubes, means for locking the tubes in extended position, a fixed plate at the outer end of the inner tube, an adjustable plate on the outer end of the outer tube, handles on said adjustable plate, means for adjusting the plate on the outer tube, and a strop attached at their ends to the fixed plate and extending around the adjustable plate.

2. A razor-strop comprising a tubular center-bar formed of an interior and an exterior tube telescoping one into the other, a springouter tube, a iXed plate at the outer end of the inner tube, an adjustable plate on the outer end of the outer tube provided With handles, means for adjusting the adjustable plate on the outer tube, and a strop attached permanently to the plate on the inner tube and passing over the adjustable plate.

3. A razor-strop comprising a tubular center-bar forrned of two telescoping tubes, an inner and outer one, a spring-actuated catch at the inner end of the inner tube adapted to interlock With the outer tube, a stationary plate at the outer end of the inner tube, an

, adjustable plate on the outer threaded end of the outer tube, a screw-nut adjustable on the end of the outer tube, bent-up handles on the adjustable plate, and a strop the ends oi which are' permanently attached to the stationary plate of the inner tube and passed over the adjustable plate, said plate and strop being provided With registering openings Jfor the threaded end of the outer tube.
