VIBRATING BED.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1, 1908.
Application filed December 10, 1907. Serial'No- 406,844.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ADAMS SEEBER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Im movements in Vibrating Beds, of which the ollowing is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in vibrating beds, and consists in certain novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings forming a part hereof Figure 1 is a perspective view of a part of a bed provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the cam plate and its sup ort. Fig. 3 is an end view of a portion of t e bed and the vibrating mechanism. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the vibrating mechanism and, Flg. 5 is a section through the socket plate;
In the present embodiment of my invention, the bed 30 is of any desired construction, and is supported by legs 25 of resilient material, the said legs being attached to the corner posts of the bed by flanges 36, and the lower end of the legs is received in a slot 33, i
in a socket plate 32, the said socket plate be ing provided with cars 34 having openings therethroughfor receiving the screws 35 whereby the plates may be attached to the floor. The vibrating mechanism comprises a base 1 u on which is su ported a motor 2 of any preferred construction, in the present instance an electric motor, the ulley 3 of the motor being connected by a elt 5, with a pulley 6 journaled loosely ,on a shaft 4, mounted in a casing 7 supported by the base. The pulley 6 has secured to one face thereof a pinion 8 meshing with a gear wheel 9 journaled ona counter shaft 10, supported by the casing. The gear wheel 9 has secured to the face thereof a pinion 11, meshing with a gear wheel 12, j ournaled on theshaft 4 above mentioned, and having secured to the face thereof, a pinion 13, meshing with a gear wheel 14, 1ournaled on the counter shaft. The gear wheel 14 has secured to the face thereof, a pinion 15, which meshes with a gear wheel 16, provided with a hub 17, journaled on the shaft 4. An arm 18 is -provided with a bearing 19 for receiving the oh, and is secured thereto bya set screw 20. The free end of the arm is provided witha roller scribed mechanism the plate 23 may be ad justed with respect to the box, whereby to vary the extent of the vibration of the bed.
. The object of the invention is to im art a' continuous vibration to the bed, and t e extent of thevibration may be varied by adjusting the cam plate 23 on the box 27.
I claim:
1. The combination with the bed, of spring legs for supporting the same, and means for vibrating the bed, said means comprising afmotor, an arm mounted for swinging movement in a circle and driven by the motor, a friction roller on the end of the arm, a late provided with an inclined edge with w ich the roller cooperates, and with spaced parallel ribs on its u er face, a box secured to the bed and mova fie between the ribs, and a' set screw connecting thebox with the plate.
2. The combination with the bed, of spring legs for sup orting the same, and means for vibrating t e bed, said means comprising a motor, an arm mounted for swingmg movement in a circle and driven by the motor, a plate provided with an inclined edge with which the arm cooperates, a box se-- cured to the bed, and means for adjustably connecting the plate with the box.
3. The combination with the bed, of spring legs for sup orting the same; and means for vibrating t e bed, said means comprising a motor, an arm mounted for swinging movement in a circle and driven by the motor, a plate adjustably secured to the bed and provided with an inclined edge with,
which the roller cooperates.
4. The combination with the bed, of spring legs for sup orting the same, and means for vibrating t e bed, said means comprising a motor, an arm mounted for sw nging movement in a circle and driven by the With which the ar'm coperates, and means motor, and a cam surface on the bed, with for operating the arm. which the arme00 )erates.
5. In cembinatio n, a spring supported bed, JOHN ADAMS :5 and means for vibrating the bed, said means W'itnesses:
comprising an armmounted for rotating ERNEST BRAND, Jr., movement, and a cam surface on the bed WALTER G HAYES.
